It is 1100AM Sunday, 11 September at Cleveland Hopkins, and 747SP, A6-SMR of the Dubai Air Wing has just recieved clearance to Lexington airport as Dubai 002 (DUB 002).
I'm not sure if that's his destination, or just where he will recieve further clearance onward, but he's all buttoned up and ready to go from CLE. The plane's been here since the 4th, presumably for a visit to the Cleveland Clinic.
Just thought I'd give you a heads-up, if indeed it is where he is heading. Maybe he's heading down to pick up a couple of horses on the way home!

Oh yes, I assume it was the Clinic...most of the foreign dignitaries that come here are using the Clinic.
Well, he lifted off at 1137 and flew the runway heading till he was out of sight ( 237.) He had a motorcade of 12 vehicles, including four police cars and four motorcycle cops. ( I hope my shots come out!)
It has always been my experience that the flights of dignitaries or Government officials never show up on various civilian flight tracking equipment. So far, I have been unable to track this flight. I haven't had a chance to check our Passur out yet, but chances are he wouldn't show up anyway!

Guess we don't have any "Lexingtonians" who could confirm/deny his arrival! Oh well...maybe we'll hear something later.

LEX runway 4/22 is quite short for a 747, at only 7003 feet.

Having grown up going to LEX nearly every weekend, I have seen that 747SP several times. A former friend who worked at the airport told me that the Saudi royal family flies in to purchase horses at least twice a year.

My bad, they are actually from the UAE. Although I fairly sure that I've seen a Saudi 747 there before. Here is an article about their trip from the Lexington Herald Leader.

Very cool...thanks for the update! So they did indeed go to Lexington, and it WAS for horses...
