I have been a pretty loyal Delta flyer for a while. Yesterday I was checking my mileage online and realized that under 'membership status' I was labeled as Silver Medallion. As long as I remember I have always been a general member. After looking on the Delta website and not being able to find helpful info, I am turning here for help. So what exactly is the Silver Medallion status? What are it's benefits. It's probably not much different from the general member, nonetheless I'm still interested. Also what are the MQMs? Any help is appreciated.

Basically, here's the rundown:
25% mileage bonus on all flights
Unlimited upgrades on all Delta flights (automatic if booking in Y/B/M class, clears at 1 day for all other classes; subject to inventory in the V bucket)
Use of First Class check-in line
Discount on Crown Room membership
Priority boarding (Zone 2 or 3; Zone 1 is First class, Zone 4 is the start of general boarding)
MQMs are the same for everyone...1.5x for F/A/C/D/I/Y/B/M classes, 1x for H/Q/K/S/L/U/T classes.

After flying AF across the pond and back, and two roundtrips to Brazil with AM last year (plus other DL and AM short flights), I made it to Silver Elite status as well. I got in the mail a new card valid till February 2006 and some special tags for my luggage. In addition, I have been getting more miles as explained by Jeff, and got upgraded when I flew ATL-MEX last May (I was not expecting the upgrade since I was flying on a reward ticket, so it was awesome). I am desperately searching for more opportunities to fly SkyTeam airlines cheap so that I can remain a Silver Elite frequent flyer beyond February (so if you know of any good mileage runs from MEX, let me know).
Enjoy your new status and keep it beyond the termination date!

It was the way I remembered what was .5 MQMs before the switch...bad MQM accumulation = not the greatest profession in the world (in my opinion)...it just became second nature when memorizing DL fare types for me.
Of course, I've never seen an S fare on Delta, but still...

Make sure u request an upgrade by calling delta or at check in everytime you check in for a flight. As a silver medallion ur eligible for unlimited upgrades as someone mentioned. If there are a whole bunch of gold and platinums and other silvers you may not get it, but never hurts to try. Silver is where it all begins..
