Hi all,

Swiss and BA were working together for GVA-LHR flights, such as the one I took yesterday. I was informed that their approval has been "broken" by BA, from Sept. 15th. There will be no more direct flight then LHR-GVA. My return flight which I had booked for Oct 8th has been "canceled" and I have been sent on another flight, via Zürich  old

Does anyone know why? Has it something to do with Swiss integrating Star Alliance? BA and OneWorld certainly didn't like that?

Cheers  wave  Philippe

This is not really surprising. Why should BA code-share with a member of the LH group and Star Alliance?

I know it isn't surprising but the thing is when I booked the flight, there was already some agreement on LX and Star Alliance...

I think until the LH acquisition BA was still interested in taking over LX themselves, hence the codeshare. Many believe their eyes have moved towards IB or maybe even AY instead...

Surely BA must be the winner here. Didn't they get a few LHR slots out of LX when they were struggling?

BA will loose the SWISS customers out of GVA and the LCY flights are still available for the Business-guys!

Since the LH buyout, LHR remains attractive for LX, but less important, it still is an important route for LX though!

And finally, LX will focus more on a sole hub structure!

I agree Phillippe,
that was dumb of LX not to report anything to the customers...

BA wasn't interested at all. That is the reasen why LX flew into the arms of LH.

Absolutely, Now my flight will be way longer. It's in 4 weeks time si it's okay, but what if it was on friday, and it was a business trip? I would've lost 2 hours in London, and arrive later in GVA! Completely stupid of them! Well, I love flying so I don't really care  Silly But BA crews are nicer that swiss:

Good! The service offered on BA operated flights is nowhere near that of Swiss. Is there any chance of LH giving LX some slots at Heathrow so that they can reinstate a GVA service?

It seems like LHR-GVA is an important route for LX, and it is almost inconceivable that they will not be offering this again in the future. It is too much to expect passengers to transit Zurich to get to Geneva.

I agree with you on that. I wonder where they'll take the slots... will BA have to give it back to them as somehow they broke the "pact"? I guess BA got a slot when the arrangement was concluded, so now what?

Damn, so much traffic in LHR, it's reallty can't wait to go spotting there, in 2 hours time! Big grin

It is my understanding that Swiss exchanged the slots for a cash injection, so I don't think that they can be handed back. Perhaps LH will come to the rescue with some slots?

BA took over the LHR- Basle and Geneva routes as part of the codeshare agreement, effectively forcing out the competition on these lucrative routes.

Part of this agreement was also that Swiss stopped sending a widebody morning flight each day (normally MD11 or A330) from ZRH.

Now LX only serves ZRH from Heathrow. In fact they serve more destinations from LCY than from LHR.

Imagine my horror a while back to discover that my LX flight was operated by BA... Then it was cancelled and BA staff at T4 were less than helpful.

I really hope to see LX back on the BSL and GVA routes out of Heathrow soon.

Cambrian...same thing happened to me: I discovered that my flight was in fact operated by BA...and did not like it that much.

The whole BA LX thing is certainly utter madness. I am really glad BA does not interfere anymore (Swiss would have vanished ot at least shrinked to a RJ carrier).

Selling slots at LHR is a sign like rats leaving the sinking ship...

Is there any chance to get them back, maybe via BD?

Cheers

Maybe I should have explained that I was travelling in Business. If you need to know the difference between Swiss and BA, take a BA operated flight from Heathrow to Geneva, then continue your journey to Athens on an LX flight.

The difference is very clear...

I have never flown LX in Economy, but I suppose that I assumed that, as they are better than BA in C, that they should be better in Y too. Are you saying that LX is worse because they flirted with buy on board for a few months?

I agree that some BA crew are very nice, and allow their personalities to show through- which is a nice experience for the passenger. Swiss crew are super-efficient and welcoming, but perhaps more reserved in some ways?

Enjoy your BA flight today!
