US 170s Set To Move To Concourse B, C In PHL

The 170's will be moving back to the mainline boys in what I have heard the 19th. They will be in Concourses B and C. I am glad they are moving from the smaller Terminal F. Gate areas were just to small for the 170s and this will actually free up some gates that were closed due to the 170 size. What is going to happen if Repugnant gets all the 170s is yet to be seen.

Interestingly I'll be on four different US aircraft types on four flights -- ERJ, 321, E170, CRJ.

It is not that bad. You will have to take a shuttle from C16, which they run every few minutes. It is a couple minute bus ride, but if all the flights are on-time, you should have more than enough time.

You mentioned the tight space in F with the E70s...were you ever over there when AirTran was in F? Two 717s next to each other over there...that was tight.

When FL was temporarily at F11 & F13 in 2002, I believe that gate F24 could not be used while a 717 (or a DC-9 at the time) was parked at F11. If I'm not mistaken, the E170s usually park at gates F1, F3, F5, & F7. My E170 BNA-PHL flight a few months ago parked at F1.

The E170's wingspan is about the same width as the DHC-8-30; though narrower than a 717's wingspan, it is still wider than the smaller RJ's (both CRJ & ERJ) wingspan. The F gates w/jetways were space with the CRJ's and ERJ-135/145's wingspan in mind.

They've been at F since their debut a year ago. The one you saw at B/C in Feb. may have went there due it being a late arrival coupled with a gate shortage at F at the time... (just a guess)

That was always the best part of US. Between all their Express carriers, and their mainline fleet, you could ride all kinds of different plane types. Those relatively rare 734s are supposedly leaving in the not-so-distant future though.

I'm still going to give US @ PHL a last chance... assuming I survive my NW @ PHL this weekend. All in the name of the E-170 I'll fly the evening PHL-IND flight with them, although I would have liked to hang out in F better than B/C since it's newer... and especially if I was going to fly ABE-PHL-IND since the ABE DH8/RJ would definitely be in F. Maybe US will impress me so much that I'll quit b*tching about PHL.  Wow!

Yes, US had D2 and D4 for a while and used them for all the E70 flts, but then they were moved to F and shortly after US rejected the leases to D2 and D4 and the city took control and inturn leased them to WN

There is a shuttle between C16 and F. And it looks like they've extended it to Terminal A. While this might not be that well known it is much easier than the walk. Whenever i see the busses go by it looks like there is barely anyone on them.

 SillyD I've done F >> B, and that was bad enough. I hate F with a passion, and try to get mainliners when I fly through PHL. If I'm staying in B/C though, PHL isn't a bad airport at all if you have a short connection. I think it's a quite nice airport, but apparently I'm one of the few who think that  Wink.

Of course. They use the mainline gates in every single other airport they fly to, just not PHL, because there wasn't any space for them in B/C. Now, with the reduction in 737 flying, there apparently is space. (Though I've heard that it might just be the MidAtlantic planes moving over, with the Republic ones staying in F.)

Yah, I have taken the shuttle many times. Its not a very good service. Usually runs slow and I end up waiting a long time, but don't get me wrong, it does save me some time (but not much). One more thing: The reason I have had to "walk it" before is because the bus was supposedly broken down or not running. If you can use the shuttle bus, use it, but its not dependable.

A particular plane type they fly might impress you, a terminal they use might impress you, but the USAirways Philadelphia experience will never, ever impress you in anything but a really negative way. Both in regards to customer service (only CLT is worse with those nasty ex-PI agents STILL with a chip on their shoulder!) and logistics. I wish you luck. but u aint gonna come away from this one lovin either PHL or US! (Sorrrrry!)

Guys... obviously you missed my sarcasm. This is ME we're talking about. It would take an awful lot for me to be impressed by US @ PHL. That said, I do go in there every time with an open mind. It's only fair. If US @ PIT pissed me off I'd get anti-US@PIT as well, same theory, open mind.

Yeah CLT is leaps and bounds above PHL. I can deal with crabby people if I don't have to deal with them. When all goes well, the e-checkin/kiosks work, flights are on time, the connections aren't blown, and the luggage isn't lost the only person I need to worry about is the one collecting my boarding pass. CLT as a hub runs pretty smoothly, so typically you don't have to deal with the people. If PHL had just one of the choices of better people, or better operations, 90% of the problems there would be solved. Either people who can handle your problems politely and efficiently (see CO @ EWR), or no problems to begin with so it wouldn't matter what the people were like (US @ CLT).
