My dad had to rework a couple of itineraries for December because it looks like DL has only 2 flights out of MOB now--An 8:50am and 5:12pm flight of course both on CRJs. Surely something is wrong with reservations because we used to have 7 or 8 flights a day earlier this year to ATL and the CVG flight too. Can someone confirm what is going on? I can't believe that DL would cut this many seats from city in a peak travel season.

In December there are currently three flights scheduled from ATL to MOB and two flights scheduled from MOB to ATL, so most likely not all of the flights have been loaded into the system yet, so unless MOB likes collecting Delta Jets, then more flights should be on their way. I would hae thought though that Delta's December schedule would already have been finalized, but I guess not.

The CVG flights have been cancelled...I don't know the status of MOB or how it fared with Katrina though...it might be Delta's waiting to see how the market rebounds...

The airport didn't suffer much damage at all... I flew through there 9 Sep and was on one of those cancelled flights on 11 Sep.
It's weird because no other airline has scaled back. DL seems to be the only one.

It makes no sense DL would cut MOB flights so much. There is no LCC competition like in PNS or GPT and MOB residents have a fairly strong allegiance to DL--everyone I know in MOB flies DL predominately. Yields must be much higher in MOB than GPT or PNS because fares are always quite higher. Whenever I fly DL out of MOB the flights are full. It's a sad day for DL fans out there.

very surprising indeed, especially for a carrier who garners 60% of the market. Perhaps this will open up the door for more AA to DFW, they seem to be fairly successful in launching new routes in this area (PNS and VPS).

The screwed up DL schedule for MOB continues. Today it looks like they are going to operate 4 flights to ATL, with the first flight out at 8:50a and last flight out at 5:12p. Tomorrow it looks like they are going to operate 3 flights, with the first flight out at 1:10pm and last flight out at 5:12pm!
Bookings cannot be that bad to operate such a horrible schedule out of MOB. You would think loads would be higher because of relief flights. If DL keeps on acting in this way, they are going to drive their loyal customers in MOB to NW, CO, or just flying out of PNS. So much for operating a normal schedule in Ch. 11.

I can't figure out what DL is doing in MOB. They seem to have gone totally nuts. I'm sure traffic at MOB is down, but slashing capacity by 60% seems a bit much. None of MOB's other carriers have done this, so why is DL going to haywire?

Pulling up the slack that DL has left, CO has increased the number of flights to IAH. It will now have 5 ERJ flights to IAH a day except for Tuesday. This makes CO the largest carrier out of MOB now. I wouldn't be suprised to see AirTran come in also, but it would sure be nice if DL would bring back the mainline jets and at least have one night flight for international arrivals. Delta's international check in line at MOB will be pretty empty now since you will most likely have to spend the night in ATL on the return flight. It is a shame because my dad and his co-workers were looking forward to the new DUS flight (they work for a company headquartered in DUS).

DL's schedule for December is tentative. DL will no doubt have more than 2-3 flights at MOB. Looking at MSP they go from 9 mainline MSP-ATL flights to 3. DL's schedule will be updated with additional flights and changes on Saturday, with the final December schedule coming out on October 14. Don't worry!
Well, they are currently only running 4 flights a day down from their scheduled 6. I can't imagine this is only due to Katrina. The flights must be going out at 100% load because you can't hardly find any direct flights to ATL playing around with 7 and 14 day advanced tickets. I can only get NW codeshare flights. The city is really panicing over this. You would think if DL has intentions of adding more flights, they would tell the airport and the politicians in MOB.

I bet they are! I have family in Mobile and lived in BHM for 8 years, so I know how much Alabamians rely on DL. MOB is the 2nd largest county in the state, however, HSV and MGM have more seats and flights than the new schedule out of MOB. Heck, even tiny DHN has more service.

Maybe delta feels the city doesn't generate enough people for the use of an MD-80 or so many flights. My grandmother lives in Irvington and when I flew down in late March I was surprised to see Delta using a MD-80 ,but I wasn't surprised at the crowd they generated. Most of my family swears by them, but in the same sentence would say they charge alot( at least 4-5 years ago. They were close to being the only show in town. ) As for us...our RJ'S go out of IAH pretty full and come back pretty full.

Indeed there are traffic increases.
My whole point with the population numbers is do any of those cities garner mainline service from anyone and that many number of flights? GRR DC-9 NW maybe ? LBB I think this is a WN destination. Other carriers are probably doing ok because they're using regional jets on routes that demand such. MOB-MEM on a CRJ NW and MOB-IAH on an RJ CO.
Perhaps Delta has been flooding the city with flights for the sake of Marketshare. I seem to remember back in the 90's Delta threatening to cut service to Mobile, that at a time when they were close to being the only carrier with mainline service. ( Much of my family paid an arm and leg to go MOB-DFW-ETC or MOB-ATL-ETC.) and now see's a chance to cut back after Katrina. I don't know how their loads are there on the MD-80,but perhaps MOB is simply a destination that needs regional service.
All that said...I'd like to see a 735 on the IAH-MOB-IAH route, but unless they come up with Casinos like GPT it may not happen.
