Hey guys,
Tuesday i spent the whole day at the Montreal/Dorval Int'l airport and something starnge happened. During the morning a 747-(200?) landed I could not see if he went to the gate or not to get his passengers off. But I have seen it in the early afternoon parked in the middle of the maintenance center, near the Royal hangar. Maybe he had some problems during his cruise to YUL and needed to be fix. Later in the day an Olympic A340 landed this one going to a gate. maybe the 747 would spend a night or more in CYUL so the airline send off another one. But the starnge thing is when that during the evening i have seen another Olympic 747 landing in montreal. Wow now that makes 3 Olympic aircrafts in YUL when they (I think) have only 1 or less flight a day in YUL. How's that there's 3 flights? Well I understand for the A340, he was a back up for the 747 at maintenance but what did the other 747 was doing there?

Thanks

Nicolas

hmmmmm,
I have read in a greek newspaper in the web (naftemporiki.gr) 3-4 days ago, that the FAA does not approve the JFK-ATH route with the Airbuses for the exrta flights during the summer. During the winter OA was using 2 A-340's and that was fine, but during the summer they intended of adding 1 or 2 more in the route (I think they want to offer 11 flights/week) Apparently the FAA did not approve the change of the extra 2 Airbuses over the B-747's (for safety reasons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and I read that they were approaching the issue from a diplomatic route.

Also I ahve heard that Olympic's Jumbos were going to be bought (or leased) by GECAS, as it will lease from GECAS the new 737's (-700-800) .
Hope that helps.
Anyone with more news?
Regards
Emannuel

And something else.....
The President of the Greek Democracy is officially visiting Canada these days. Today he was in Toronto from what I read. May be this explains everything.

more about my first reply...
this comes from the Athens News Agency
FAA - Airbuses - Olympic

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Washington-based Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has reportedly consented to the replacement of two Olympic Airways 747s with new Airbus 340s on the airlines routes to the United States.Greek civil aviation authorities (YPA) this past week sharply criticised a more-or-less tacit ban by the FAA against an OA plan to replace two out-dated Boeing ?Jumbos? with the state-of-the-art European-made Airbuses.
FAA, the influential agency that oversees air traffic control and the airline industry in the United States, reportedly informed OA officials last week over the ban, although an official memorandum to YPA had not been relayed.
OA officials had said the FAA simply cited bureaucratic reasons? and a freeze on new listings on the agency’s register for the decision.

hmmmmmm

Emmanuel

Sounds interesting. Personally I will be sad to see the 747's leave Athens. Even the 2 or so that don't fly, they are really something I look forward too when I go to Athens. As for the FAA, I DON'T see why they aren't allowing the brand new A-340's (my favorite plane   ) on that route especially for safety reasons???
