OneWorld Has Financially Healthiest Members

Now that DL and NW have entered Ch. 11, Skyteam has quite a collection of financially weak carriers:

NW - Chapter 11
DL - Chapter 11
Alitalia - chronically weak, "clinically dead" since a long time

That's 3 out of 9 members.

As for Star:

United - Chapter 11
US Airways - Chapter 11
Varig - the Brazilian variant of Chapter 11

... and let's not forget the grave problems of SAS and Austrian, as well as the fact that Air Canada just emerged from bankruptcy protection. Future member Swiss isn't exactly healthy either..

A more telling statistic would be that oneworld was the only alliance where member carriers made a collective profit in 2004.

It's too bad that oneworld can't cooperate like it can make money.

Like said above, OneWorld may be profitable, but it isn't as organized as Star or Skyteam.

Star and Skyteam consolidate routes better. OneWorld is nothing but a bunch of codeshare airlines, yet they are rich.

My rough analysis of things --

Star:

UA is bankrupt
RG is bankrupt
US is bankrupt
SK is on the brink
OS is on the brink
BD is not doing well
AN disappeared
AC is on its way back up after being in bankruptcy for years
NH is doing well
LH is doing well
LO is doing well
SQ is doing well
TP is doing well
JK is doing well
OZ is doing fairly well
NZ is doing fairly well
TG is doing fairly well

SkyTeam:

DL is bankrupt
NW is bankrupt
AZ is bankrupt
AM is doing fairly well
OK is doing well (or, I suppose, "ok"  Smile)
AF-KL is doing well

oneworld:

AA is on its way back up after years of restructuring
BA is doing well
LA is doing well
QF is doing well
CX is doing fairly well
AY is doing fairly well
IB is doing fairly well

You forgot all about EI!!!

Wait, EI is still part of OneWorld, right?

I apologize.
Yes I did.

EI is doing, in my estimation, fairly well.

Neither was One World given anti-trust protection like Star although it applied for it. Hence it cannot legally organize itself as well as Star. Hence the difference!

Where is CO?

Indeed, oneworld is almost like a plain purple sticker in the door. Yet those airlines are rich.

You remember AN, but not CP. How convenient.  Silly

Just because AA can't get ATI with BA or IB because of their respective countries not having open-skies, doesn't mean AA doesn't have any ATI with oneworld carriers. In fact, AA/AY and AA/LA have ATI. So did AA and that oneworld beacon of financial strength, CP.

There are plenty of Star carriers not in the various Star ATIs, US among them.

I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

You missed CO and KE which are both doing fairly well.

As stated, AN went under whereas CP was bought out by AC despite attempts by AA to purchase a stake in the airline along with Canadian company Onex.

Big difference!

How do you figure that?!

I've been flying on a 4 continents around the world ticket, and I've been treated like gold by all the carriers.

In Beijing, CX staff checked me in for my next flight on QF from Hong Kong to London, and sent the bag all the way as well.

I had 30kg in one bag, but on my restricted Economy flight with BA from London to Amsterdam (separate to my 4 continents booking), I was allowed on board with no excess charges.

Finnair have been excellent, as have Aer Lingus. I have no complaints - I don't see how it's just a "sticker on the door".

Not to mention the oodles of Frequent Flyer points I've been racking up...

Trent.

I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

IIRC, SAS will probably make a profit this year. Their turnaround 2005 finnaly has an effect.
