Today I was driving home from work on Route 23 South (Columbus, Ohio to Circleville, Ohio) ... I spotted a Boeing 747 landing over Route 23 on the way to Rickenbacker airport. Few minutes before that, I saw a military-type jet landing -- I could not identify the jet.

I had this almost identical view today.. Atlas Air Boeing 747 -- pretty neat.

Few days ago early morning I spotted a FedEx 727-200 landing in fog - same direction

Anyone been to Rickenbacker airport? What is the traffic like at Rickenbacker (airplane departures/arrival per day)?

LCK (Rickenbacker) field size is bigger than CMH. Is that true?

P.S. LCK was named after Eddie Rickenbacker, boss of Eastern Airlines before Frank Borman   thumbsup

My fiancee lives just off of 665 near 23. Right under (one of?) the LCK flight path. I have seen so many different types of airplanes both civilian and military. It is beautiful to just sit and enjoy the view and sounds.

Also, I have flown Hooters Air out of there. My fiancee flew Southeast out of there before they went belly up.

Thanks for that long list of flights past 24 hours... I definitely will go there for a visit - maybe this weekend. (I live about 15 miles from LCK).

I'll be amazed to see a Pan Am 72S jet there!

Is that the Borman of Borman Expressway (I-80/94) in Lake County, IN fame? If so, why?

That is Frank Borman, Apollo 8 astronaut. After he left NASA, he headed EA. And the Frank Borman Expressway is named after him, even though Borman is still alive.

LCK gets 747s from Evergreen, Kalitta, Atlas, and occasionally Polar. Dc-8 from UPS, and DC-10/MD-10 from Fedex.

If anyone does intend to go spotting at Rickenbacker, I'd definitely check http://www.flytecomm.com before heading out. Traffic can range anywhere from the list posted earlier, to about half a dozen aircraft for the entire day. As mentioned, LCK sees heavies from several carriers, as well as Hooters Air 737s and the occassional passenger charter. Probably the best place to watch aircraft is from the control tower parking lot, between the tower and the Lane Aviation hangar.

Also, anyone know why Champion and AirTran have been sending aircraft to Rickenbacker this week. Champion had 2 727s come in yesterday from Gulfport, MS and today AirTran is sending 2 717s in from Gulfport, scheduled to arrive this afternoon. Anyone know what's up?

Here's the link to my trip report: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/60423

There wasn't a whole lot at LCK, although they do have a nice charter terminal. It only has two ticket counter positions & two gates, one used by Pan Am & the other by Hooters, and one baggage carousel. The customs arrival area is connected to the baggage claim, only there are no doors between the two rooms, just a nylon rope.

I think Pan Am cut most of their flights out of LCK recently. For a while, the only flight left on their website was LCK-PSM, although they seem like a hard airline to keep track of.
