What Could Be The Next OneWorld Carrier (excl MA)?

Apart from MALEV Hungarian Airlines, what could the next viable carrier be to join OneWorld? Maybe Japan Airlines, Air Sahara, Etihad or Mexicana?

The airlines that I think would be viable members for oneworld and would not only contribute to the overall alliance, but would also stand to benefit significantly from oneworld membership, are (in no particular order):

Japan Airlines System

JAL would be an absolutely perfect fit for oneworld. Their network is highly complimentary with several other members -- including AA and CX -- and they would bring to the alliance a whole new range of connectivity not only throughout Japan, but also across much of northern Asia and to China. JAL already has cooperative agreements, of some sort or another, with almost every oneworld carrier -- AA, BA, CX, LA, QF -- and, IMO, would make a perfect fit in oneworld.

Mexicana

Mexicana, much like JAL, is -- IMO -- a oneworld airline waiting to happen. They are already very tightly linked with AA, the two having virtually combined their U.S.-Mexico networks and also has strong partnerships with other Latin America-focused oneworld partners IB and LA. Mexicana would open up the global oneworld to the huge (and rapidly growing) internal Mexican market, and oneworld would bring Mexicana a global distribution network that it has not had since it left Star.

TAM Brazilian Airlines

TAM would provide oneworld with access to the largest economy, largest population and largest air market in all of South America -- Brazil. TAM, nearly universally regarded as providing among the best service in Brazil and all of South America -- would give oneworld's Latin American network a huge boost, and be highly complimentary to AA, IB and LA. The only downside: TAM and AA have to work out a less restrictive commercial arrangement before TAM can truly get closer to AA (after leaving AF/KL for good).

SN Brussels Airlines

While SN may not have as compelling a network benefit for oneworld as JAL or Mexicana, the airline nonetheless does operate hundreds of flights a week between some of the largest cities in continental Europe, including linking its home base -- the seat of the E.U., NATO and dozens of international organizations -- with major capitals of commerce and culture, and brining oneworld access to 13 major destinations throughout the African continent. Big plus for SN: because they have no transatlantic network, BA is much more apt to allow them access to oneworld than it was LX.

China Eastern

This one is just obvious -- China is a white-hot economy, growing faster than virtually any other on earth and, not surprisingly, air travel demand in that country is skyrocketing. oneworld needs access to the vital market -- which will only continue growing -- and China Eastern is the perfect fit for oneworld as it has minimal ties with airlines from other alliances. The only downside: CX is now getting closer to Air China.

Grupo TACA

TACA is the largest and best airline in Central America, with primary hubs in San Salvador and San Jose, and a smaller hub in Lima, Peru. TACA would give oneworld access to Central America and highly compliment the alliance that already has a huge presence in Latin America via regional heavyweights AA, LA and IB. The only downside: TACA's Lima hub might class with LAN Peru's.

Alaska Airlines

Okay, okay, I know this is far-fetched. But, AS/QX would definitely bring oneworld a stronger presence along the western U.S. coast, and to Canada, than it could ever get with just AA. AS/QX already have partnerships with five oneworld airlines: AA, BA, CX, LA and QF.

I see no room for Taca if Mexicana joins One World...+ the storry with LAN Peru.

I agree completely. Their current codeshare system with AA apparently benefits both parties. JAL's network would give oneworld a much needed boost in Asia, and would make OW a serious competitor to STAR. I think JAL joining is only a matter of time, really.

Air Sahara may be a contender to join oneworld. They have just signed agreements with BA and AA.
But then again I'm not too sure about Indian carriers at the moment. AI is really close to STAR, and I think I heard something last year about Lufthansa wanting them to join. But Jet Airways has decided to co-operate with UA - which is a member of STAR? To make things even more complicated, Jet also wants to codeshare with QF, member of oneworld, on BOM-SYD routes!
...I think I can safely say that it is anyone's guess about Indian carriers and alliances!

S2 - Most likely to join OneWorld. I think Air Sahara would benefit OneWorld more, as opposed to the other way around. It would extend the Indian network of OneWorld and OneWorld carriers. They would benefit from the extensive BA Indian route network, AA DEL-ORD (and beyond), CX BOM-BKK/DXB/HKG and DEL-HKG, QF BOM-SYD

What about LAN Argentina and LAN Ecuador? Why aren't they in the alliance along with LAN Chile, LAN Paru and LAN Express?

I also would like to see Mexicana and SN entering as they haave ties to several members but look at malev: KLM, Air France, Air Europa, Aeroflot, CSA...and the only relationship with ow was finnair.

Also notice SN would be the sixth carrier in Europe... a little too much

I think OW is setting eyes on Asia where they only have one carrier. One of India/China will be wise to have more presence in Asia
