Hi fellow a.netters

With the expected expansion and growth for AC in the Asian sector (ex. China, Japan etc.) does anyone believe or know if AC is looking at possibly ordering the A380 or even the 747ADV in order to meet the demand in the near future or possible later on in few years or so.

They just got rid of their (mostly ex-CP) 744s. Their plans seem to be focused around the 777 for now at least.

I think we are unlikely to see anything larger than the B777-300ER in AC's fleet for the foreseeable future. The B747-500 is conceivable, but a long-shot. No way will AC be ordering the WhaleJet.

Air Canada 747 (by 744 Sep 18 2005 in Civil Aviation)

The Boeing order was an indication of what acft type AC wants for the future. No 380's and no 747ADV.

The current long haul fleet is 767s A330s and A340s. The future is looking like 777s and 787s. 747Adv = very unlikely. A380 = no.

What could possibly go wrong?

This was discussed previously. According to the CEO, AC's traffic is too seasonal for a jumbo. I believe this was stated during the (now cancelled) order for 777s and 787s.

AC's position brings up a good point to make about jumbos: they're great when you can fill them up, but you can't fly half of an airplane in the off season.

A good landing is one you can walk away from. A great landing is if the aircraft can be flown again.

AC does not want anymore 4 engine aircraft, that’s why the B777 line was chosen over the A346/HGW. Milton wants a pure twin engine long haul fleet for fuel efficiency and fleet costs.

I think it would be highly unlikely for AC to add a B747ADV aircrafts to its B777/787 order (when it re-orders)

When the A380 first flew, AC put a statement on AChorizions.ca that they think the A380 is an awesome plane, but it’s not in AC's future.
