Hi all,
I read an article (http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/business/industries/aviation/12690088.htm) that says Delta has 55 planes on order. I know some of them are T7s, but what else do they on order?

Looking at that page, DL fleet is in good shape should they desire to cut back in BK. They OWN the planes they would want to keep, and lease the ones they would want to dump, including the older 737s, many MD88s, many CRJ1/200s, non-ER 763s, etc. Frankly a much better position than a NW, who owns so many of their oldest, least efficient planes.

The website states that DL has 8 x 772s in service. These should actually be 777-232ERs.

Didnt DL arrange that for the 738s on order that they had already arranged for them to be either sold or leased out to another airline without even being delivered to DL themselves?

Some of them, and it actually says that in their corporate financial statements. DL has deferred the remainder of the 738 deliveries, along with the 777s. If DL has no use for these aircraft at the time of planned delivery they will most probably arrange to sell them at that time. At least new 738s and 772ERs with RR engines are in fairly good demand.

I believe several DL new build 738's went to China/India over the last couple of months. Not sure on the quantity.

Yes, all 11 738s they were scheduled to take delivery of this year, sold to a leasing company I had not heard of before (and honestly don't even remember). IIRC, some of those 738s are flying with Ryanair and Hainan these days.

Can someone answer me why Delta, and any airline for that matter, would defer deliveries of airplanes? I always thought they payed for the planes upfront, but I'm getting the vibe that they pay for them on an individual basis. Is this correct?

I think the 21 leased 733's will be the first planes to go along with the FRJ-328, which 30 are leased. The 733's I believe are pushing 20 years old, probably have a lot of cycles, old WA aircraft. The FRJ-328's are left over from the Atlantic Coast deal. Are they of any use now? How about the small fleet of 12 ATR-72, of which 8 are leased, those might be a canidate to go. Shows 75 planes on order, 51 738, 5 772ER, 19 CRJ 100/200. I would think they would cancel the CRJ order, do they realy need more RJ's ?

IIRC from the Boeing Factory tour that I took a few years ago, 1/3rd is paid upon ordering, 1/3rd when it goes to the paint shop, and the final 1/3rd when it's delivered. I might be wrong though, but I do know they are not 100% up front.

IIRC, the company was called Lombard Aviation.
