AC Fleet Upgrade/Refurbishment

I've got a couple of questions about Air Canada's fleet upgrade and interior upgrades:

1. Is there any indication whether the pilot dispute will be over soon and AC can re-order new planes
2. What's the timetable for the interior upgrades, when will they start narrowbodies/widebodies. And how long will it take?
3. Is it true that, beside the PTV's, the whole fleet will get new seats etc.?
4. Will the whole jet fleet get PTV, including the CRJ-200's. Seemed to be some confusion about that in different threads.

I know most of this info is probably scattered throughout different older thread, just trying to get the full picture. Any insight is appreciated!

1. No indication yet. Sooner rather then later I'm sure. However, I understand the seniority issue is before the labour board, so not sure how long that process takes.
2. The most recent info I've heard, is the narrowbody fleet will start this fall, and the International fleet will start Q2 2006. Starting with the ex CP B763s
3. The whole fleet will get new seats, in all classes. The B763s will get a complete interior refit from the skin inwards, lavs, galleys, and the B777 interior.
4. Every aircraft except CRJ200, and DH8 will have PTVs (AVOD)

Thanks a lot for that.. Any idea how long that process will take. will they do them one after another or only when the aircraft is due for a D-check or something anyway, in wich case it'll take many years..

I would also be very interested as to the details/schedule of the refurbishements over the next few months. Anyone from ACTS with an idea? Cannot wait to see an A333 in the new scheme as well!  Wow!

Wait, so the CRJ200s won't be getting them, but the CRJ100s will? That doesn't make much sense. Though I suspect you meant all CRJs will not get AVOD, save for the RJ705s...?

Perhaps they are forgoing upgrading the 330s because it is assumed that the 777 order will be restored...

All CRJ aircraft will have PTV, albeit installation after all other aircraft types have been completed.

You can't get there from here.

The 50 seat CRJ (100/200) will NOT have PTVs. Geez...didn't realize you have to be that specific around here.

As I understand it, the refit will take approx. 18 months to complete. The widebody Airbus isn't due for a complete interior overhaul (as they're not that old), but apparently they will receive the new seats in both classes.

Are the 767s going to have a 777 style interior to them?

Hey AC777LR,

In June's Horizon's Issue on page 2 is the answer to your question, unless something has changed.

Cheers!

Quoting IMatAMS (Thread starter):
1. Is there any indication whether the pilot dispute will be over soon and AC can re-order new planes

Air Canada can order any planes they want. The only catch is they have to adhere to the contract they signed less than a year ago. If new B777s and B787s are so important, then they better get on the phone to Boeing right away.

1) At a recent Super Elite meeting in LHR, AC said that the deal is undergoing further discussion and negotiations. Expect a resolution in the near future.

2) The refurbishment will begin in Q2 '06 beginning with the ex-CP 767's. This process will take over 18 months, and will be a complete refurb. AC will maintain a 32" seat pitch, while Virgin, BA, etc. will have 30-31".

3) All new seats by all indications.

4) I understand that it is just the mainline fleet for now. ACJ & AC are now two totally seperate airlines. I could totally be off on this though!

Many thanks for posting the link. I hadn't seen it. The B767 interior looks awesome! Now, if they could only complete the upgrade by this Saturday... Just kidding!  Wink

Thanks all for your input. I suppose not all is that clear, 'cause there are a few different answers there, but got the big picture now

Tree clippers are staying...LOL! They're very much needed on extra-long haul and cargo routes (GRU this Oct). It seems we will have lost a full year on the 777 assy line. Nothing's confirmed yet though.

Nevertheless, the A340 will stay for at least 3-4 years, until they can be replaced completely with the 777-300ER's.... hmmmm... 777... poweralicious... arrrrrghhh...

I'm still not clear on the whole new seating issue. Obviously, the Executive class seats will be new and IMPROVED as they are lie flat seats. However, will the new economy seats basically be to the same standard that current ones are or will they be a higher quality economy seat?

Also, seeing the picture in the June edition of AC Horizons, I couldn't help to notice that the seats seemed to be a greyish or dark colour. Are they not going to be putting the same new blue interior colour schemes on the 767's as they did on the ERJ's?
