Pretty cool that they did this; it actually doesn't look so bad. I have a pic of it but can't get it to upload.
Song’s Pink Plane Takes Flight for Breast Cancer Awareness
Song Adds Pink to Its Palette and Partners With the Breast Cancer Research; Foundation to Increase Awareness and Raise Funds In the Search For A Cure
Special Pink Products will be Available for Purchase on Song’s New In-Flight Marketplace on All Flights and on flysong.com throughout October to Benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Estée Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign Spokesmodel Elizabeth Hurley and BCRF Founder Evelyn Lauder to Unveil Pink Plane
NEW YORK, September 20, 2005 – Song®, Delta Air Lines’ low-fare, high-style air service, is joining the fight against breast cancer in October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month - by adding pink to its palette. Song is introducing a pink plane to its fleet in partnership with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to raise funds and awareness for the disease. On one of the 12 Boeing 757s being added to its fleet in 2005, Song replaced its distinctive lime green and white exterior with pink and white. Additionally, Song will make a variety of “pink products” available for purchase on all 48 planes with a portion of proceeds to benefit BCRF, a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding innovative research to find ways to prevent and cure breast cancer.
In addition to painting this unique plane pink, Song will brand it with BCRF’s trademarked pink ribbon logo adjacent to the boarding door, which passengers can view as they board. Song will unveil the plane in Atlanta on Sept. 20. Song will host additional ceremonial unveiling events in Boston and New York on Oct. 7, with special appearances by Evelyn Lauder, Founder and Chairman of BCRF, and Elizabeth Hurley, Estée Lauder brand and Estée Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign spokesmodel. Song will then showcase the plane in each of its markets throughout October.
“Song is deeply committed to helping raise both awareness and funding for the fight against breast cancer, a disease that more than 200,000 women and men are estimated to be diagnosed with in the United States this year alone,” said Tim Mapes, vice president of Marketing for Song. “We are proud to partner with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, an organization that has worked tirelessly for more than a decade on prevention and the search for a cure. We hope that Song’s Pink Plane will raise awareness for the cause and the pink products promoted on board by Song flight attendants on all of our flights will provide much-needed funding for innovative research that will, one day, lead to a cure.”
Throughout October, Song will sell 10 distinctive pink products from a variety of retailers through the Song Marketplace, a new shopping feature on Song’s industry-leading in-flight entertainment system that will be unveiled for the first time in October. A portion of the proceeds from every sale will benefit BCRF. The products include: b.sweets Chocolate 12 oz. Rx Chocolate Box; a charm bracelet from Carolee; Chelsea Paper Co.’s Perfectly Pink stationery set; Chip & Pepper’s “Pink Power” jeans; Daytimers’ Pink Ribbon wall calendar; Karen Neuburger’s pink slipper socks; Pack It Up Inc.’s 3-in-1 pink travel towel; The Sak’s Pink Ribbon Hobo bag in Blush Sparkle; Scanty’s Luxury Loungewear and Tumi’s Pink Signature Demi Zip purse. In addition to purchasing products to benefit BCRF, customers will have the opportunity to make a $5 donation direct to BCRF through the Song Marketplace.

About The Breast Cancer Research Foundation
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to funding innovative clinical and genetic research. The Foundation supports scientists at leading medical centers worldwide whose research is focused on achieving prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime. A minimum of 85 cents of each dollar donated to the Foundation goes directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs. In October 2005, $22 million will be awarded to 110 researchers across the U.S. and in Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Israel. Money magazine named BCRF one of America’s eight top charities. The Foundation has received the highest rating from Charity Navigator, four stars, for four consecutive years, which means BCRF has outperformed most other charities in America in efficiently managing its finances. Song: The Mary Kay cosmetics of the sky. They might as well call themselves Neon with the colors they choose. However, it's for a good cause and I can't wait to see it.

I thought I had seen a pinkish Song tail when I was last in ATL. Of course, I didn't post the subject here to A.net because I didn't want it to become another UA 757 with winglets post where it would lead to nothing but ridicule (and I didn't have a photo of it...)

Did not Song plan for it's aircraft to painted in other colors besides just green; but altered the plan in light of saving money; as additional colors would have meant additionnal costs at the paintshop?

It beats the green they were using before. Besides, isn't pink the new black? Trendy.

I've been waiting for Song to do this for a long time. I remember watching something on MSNBC about Song vs. JetBlue and they showed the original paint scheme ideas. They had the usual green but also pink, orange, blue, etc. à la Braniff.

I think this is a great way to raise awareness of a cause, and hope to see more airlines doing something similar (a WN plane in SIDS livery, for instance).
