What is the worst airport in the world. According to cleaness, departures/arrivals on time... etc. I believe it is ATH, but the airport isn't for long, they will change to a new location in May of 2001!

This topic was active less than a week ago. I'd recommend you look back a bit. It became quite a long thread.

I don’t know about the world, but Ontario California before the new terminal was depressing. Especially if it was hot & smoggy and you just arrived from some lush beautifully green part of the country. Made me want to get back on the plane the hell out of there!

DEL wasn't too great because there are more empty stores and the escalators weren't working. The custom's personel weren't helpful and had a gung ho hard ass personatily. For a minute there I thought that I was stepping through Check Point Charlie. The waiting room and the baggage pick up area I was in wasn't air conditioned. This is very bad especially during the months of rainy season. The airports looked like it was from the 1950s and also looked like that it hasn't seen a new coat of paint in years. The roads and parking lots were crumbling and were plagued with pot holes. and I thought JFK in the late 80s was bad. (This is coming from a native New Yorker)

JFK was bad but the renovation has made it better. MIA was awful in the early 1990s too.

I have got to vote for SJC... on arriving from JFK, the luggage took close to 40 minutes to get to us, then on departure, the line was incredibly long... the terminal was very crowded so much so that I couldn't even find a place to sit... I definatly could not wait to get out of that airport...

Im not a big fan of Bombay!
Very smelly. Toilets in terminal were disgusting. Crap on the walls, urine on the floor. *shiver*
Also, I came out of the toilets and was mobbed by two indian guys asking for money and wouldnt let me past till I donated. Luckily, i had a couple of Australian 5c coins in my pocket, so i gave them to the guy. But still he wouldnt let me past till i gave something to the other guy. I was thinking of offering him a mintie, but thought Id better not, I ended up giving him a 2 buck coin cos I didnt have anything else.
As for efficiency, Id have to say Perth Airport MY AIRPORT!
As much as I love it because its my home town. It is a shithole.
We arrived at 12am in the morning, on an SQ744, full of people. And at the same time a QF767 from S'pore rolled in. So there was probably 500-600 people disembarking at the same time.
Anyway, got down to immigration and they had TWO counters open. TWO god damnit. We would of waited in line for almost an hour. I had my grandmother with me and she just had an op on her knee. I was disgusted.
Then despite not having anything to declare, they thought theyd do a random check in our suitcase.
Another 25 minutes!!!
On top of that, THEY FOUND MY FIRECRACKERS DAMNIT!
So they disposed of them. (
at 1.45 we were getting into the taxi. After disembarking at 12! grrrrr!
A few days before that we arrived at s'pore and 15 minutes after disembarking our Silk Air Flight, we were on the motorway towards the city.

If you want a very bad airport, I can quote you Sheremetievo airport in Moscow...
When I went there, it was raining INSIDE the airport.
That's first time I've seen it...
The airport is very sad, it's a big labyrinth with an old inforamation system.
I hope it has changed... May be not. (My last visit was in August 1990)
There was no duty free shops when I went there for the first time...

BOS is not that bad of an airport. It is very clean. Then only problem can be delays at rush hours, as there are more shuttles and that's when the international flights all depart or arrive.

I was at JFK before it's renovation and the international arrivals/departures hall looked and smelled like crap, it was the dirtiest terminal I had ever seen and there wasn't any windows so you could not look at the airplanes. i thought JFK really sucked
Give me a break, I created this username when I was a kid...

I can't say Barajas in MAD is the worst, but still pretty bad in the 80s and 90s. Terrible viewing and little light. I went back in '97 and had to connect from international to domestic for a connection to Sevilla. Man, that was a very very long walk with a heavy laptop carry-on.
Also terrible connecting airports are LHR (maybe better after reconstruction) and Dulles!!!. Who the hell ever conceived of of those idiotic 5mph buses? Absolutely unacceptable for a city as magnificent as DC and much too far from the center of town.
