The day started out early on June 2nd, a flight from Orlando Int'l Airport to John F. Kennedy Int'l Airport in New York. I arrived 2 hours prior to my departure at 1:45PM. I arrived in a taxi from the hotel and gathered my baggage to go into the ticket area. The ticket counters are usually not too busy around 12, but this time they were. Although they were busy, I only waited 10 minutes in the BusinessElite/First Class Check-In line.
After check-in I proceeded to the Airside where my Delta 777-200ER would be waiting. After going through security at the main terminal I boarded a train to the airside. I can only brag about MCO, it is beautiful. Once at the airside I went into the Delta Crown Room to have a few drinks and snacks before boarding.
40 minutes prior to departure I gathered my carry-ons and set out to gate 80. When I got to the gate I was amazed to see the amount of people already there. The plane was in the brand new color scheme (N863DA) and was spotless from the outside. Finally 25 minutes prior to departure BusinessElite passengers were called and I boarded.
Once inside the aircraft I took my seat, 3B, and received a drink before departure. After being served my drink I went up into the cockpit to visit the pilots. Being the first time I have seen a 777, I was amazed by the cockpit and how advanced it looked. They showed me some of the advanced features and safety systems and we got into a discussion about the future of the 777 as well as the alliances. They both confirmed that more would be ordered most likely the new -200LR and -300ERs, probably around 20+23 options. He also said that he was probably going to Seoul in a week to assist in training Korean Air's pilots. I thanked them both and returned to my seat before pushback. The flight was nearly full and we pushed back approx. 5 minutes before we were scheduled to leave, 1:45. This is a typical Delta thing, they always begin boarding too late.
Once reaching 36L at around 2:00 we finally took off. The 777 was a rocket with the new Trent 892 engines. The takeoff was smooth and we were at FL270 in around 25 min. The captain came over the intercom apologizing for leaving late, but that he was going to make it up in the air. Lunch was served 40 min. after takeoff consisting of a salad, chicken pizza and choclate cake. It was very good and the large BusinessElite seats only made it better. A movie was shown on the personal screens, but I didn't watch This was my first ride in an International 777-200ER and I was impressed. I could compare it to United and American's first class products, maybe only slightly lacking.
A little over 2:10 minutes we were arriving in New York, with clear weather. Amazing what pilots can do, we arrived early after we left late. The service on the flight was amazing and flight attendants were very polite as well as attentive.

Right now Delta is running the 777s at 75% their ability since there is a small shortage of 767-300ERs. He said that trans-con and Florida service will be the primary US services. All others will be overseas.
