It is soooooo... unrealistic to think that Airbus is going to build a plane "with shops,restaurants..." people,an airplane has a very fragile stability, and pax. should be seated all the time except when really needed (bathroom).
Creating a "flying cruise ship" is just not possible at the moment.
In my opinion, the image of such a mega-plane is invented by media, surely NOT by Airbus or Boeing.
By the way: An airplane has to make the most out of a very little amount of space...

Not only is it not structurally feasable, but does anyone HONESTLY think that airlines will be content to provide hotel-style rooms to anyone when first-class seats like the ones that SIA and BA use are in existence?
And not only that, but shops and what-not take up room that airlines could be using cramming in passengers like sardines and making revenue. No way will the A3XX ever be a flying cruise ship. A bigger flying sardine can, sure, but not a cruise ship. If you want a cruise ship...take a cruise!

Reports of future Airbus aircraft having shops, cabins, gymnasiums etc are absurd, and if it is seriously being considering it means that the projected design is too big. The obvious parallel is the early days of 747s when there was a cocktail lounge (or, occasionally, dining room) upstairs and even a piano bar in zone E (rearmost) for the economy passengers (!) on some airlines, notably American Airlines. These were (especially in the case of the economy lounge) because there were not the load factors to necessitate the full complement of seats. Also, the configuration in Economy was 2-4-3, ie 9 abreast instead of today's 10. As soon as loads improved the airlines dumped the lounges without blinking.

The guy that posted that on the favorite airplanes thread said that the width would be twice the length of a 747. A 747 is 231 feet long. So this "flying Titanic" is supposed to be 462 feed WIDE? It would never get off the ground. Plus, airlines would never find pilots crazy enough to fly something so huge. Existing wide-body jets aren't exactly the most responsive aircraft in the world, so who knows how bad this aircraft would be.
Now, I did hear rumors about a 2-level Airbus A340, but nothing to the extent of restaurants, shops, and 462 feet of fuselage width. For years, Boeing has been studying the feasibility of extending the 747's upper deck to the tail of the fuselage, but it's extremely unlikely that Boeing would ever build something like that.
