I was wondering whether there have been any updates on Aeroflot's entrance into skyteam. I know that SU should be joining sometime at the end of 2005. There seems to be very little information whether SU will actually be able to join at this time. Can anyone verify any information. If SU joins skyteam, will CO fly to DME or to SVO when they begin service to Moscow. I seem to think that CO will fly to DME until Sheremetyevo 3 is complete. If aeroflot does enter skyteam by year's end, what new routes (if any) will they serve. Should we expect them to begin serving skyteam hubs? Any new North American routes. It seems to me that they are letting other airlines enter the North American market, where as they are letting other entrants in. I think they could catch a lot of market share if they began flights from NA to India, with the new Sheremetyevo 3, making Moscow almost the ideal connecting point. They might lack aircraft though for the routes, but with their purchase of six il-96-300's, maybe the airline intends to use these aircraft on routes to India.

I think TK would be a much better fit for skyteam, very modern fleet, growing airline and has the infrastructure to do so, I doubt that with SU, plus TK just had meetings with Skyteam officials.

I believe that they will not be able to enter until terminal 3 at SVO is completed.

They already serve CDG in codeshare with AF, and they also serve AMS, MXP, FCO, PRG, ICN and JFK.

Wow! Is TK really on its way into Skyteam?

About 2 months ago I asked exactly that question to SU Frequent Flyer Staff since I have both DL, KL and SU FF cards and would like use just one card for all. The (very polite) email I got back from them is that the MoU is signed and that full membership is expected for Jan-Feb 2006.
Now that was two months ago, and since Russia is quite "administration hungry" I am sure they will find some ways to delay this but from what they told they seem to be on schedule to join.

They offer nothing SkyTeam needs / wants. Russia and China are the two most expansive markets in the world right now.

I do yes. I can't say on here. I know that sucks, but it's reality.

No.

That was the plan, yes. Both SU and CZ have MOU's, and that's where it stands right now. There's some issues that need to be taken care of that could take a while.

It seems that Aeroflot management is still planning for a ST entry in March next year. NonRevKing, I am not saying you are not telling the truth, but at least SU management is still pushing for entry in the spring 06  Wink

see businesswire (you need to be registered) - or you can get the article through google news, search aeroflot. First paragraph of the article below :

MOSCOW & SOUTHLAKE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 2005--Aeroflot Russian Airlines today demonstrated significant progress in its technology upgrade project, started in March this year. At a press conference in Moscow the Russian flag carrier launched a pilot version of its new online booking service, reported its plans to introduce electronic paperless ticketing, confirmed it is on schedule with the technical requirements needed for its planned entry to the SkyTeam Alliance in March 2006 and reported the success of the travel agency technology switch in Russia.

I hope they do it. Nothing would please me more. There's just some factors outside of their control right now. Time will tell.

so SU will be implementing an online booking system. I was wondering when that would happen. As long as SU joins soon, I think it will really be beneficial for skyteam. SU flies to most of Russia, and as the market expands there, Skyteam will have the ultimate advantage over the other's because no one in Russia really offers more services and destinations than SU. I've flown them recently, and I have to say that they are realy improving in quality. I also think that a change in their logo is coming.

Actually SU have a great network. I'm now just waiting for some of the alliances to have a look at FV (Pulkovo). They are a great little airline, made about 8 M$ profit last year and they have an absolutely great network which would be a great addition to any alliance.
On top of that, St Petersburg's northerly position would make it a great transit point. Now if only the Russian government would do something about the Visa stuff which will stop most of this. I've seen some people transiting in SPB and going to Shanghai though. Locally the flight sells for 439$
One sad thing though... 2 735's (ex EI) have been added to the fleet in the summer and 3 more are on the way. This means that soon the Tu-134's will start phasing out. I absolutely love flying those.
There are already 4 Tu-154B2's and an Il-86 that have been parked close ot the cargo terminal... sad but I guess a reality of life.
So far for my venture off topic  Smile
