Found this article on SLOK (gambian Airline) website...
It has come to our notice about a news item announced by a French Radio, and some rumours being peddled by our enemies and some jealous competitors, that SLOK AIR INTERNATIONAL does not have the six Airplanes we claim to have, and that the Safety of our Airplanes is questionable.
For the records, SLOK AIR INTERNATIONAL owns Six Airplanes. The fact of the matter is that two of the Airplanes were due for “C” Check on the 18th of August, 2005 and has since been withdrawn from the flight line. The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority has sent an Inspector to inspect and approve the facility we intend to use in Toulouse, France for the “C” Check. Once this approval is received the two Airplanes will be flown out for this Check and in two to three weeks will be back in Service.
On Tuesday 23rd of August, 2005 one of our Aircraft on Charter to Douala from Dakar stopped over in Banjul, and while on take-off at around 22:00 hours, local time, ingested some birds which were on the runway. This resulted in a bang and the take-off was aborted.
We immediately changed the Aircraft and the flight continued to Douala without any further incident.
Because of this incident, which has nothing to do with Safety and maintenance, these same enemies and jealous Competitors are now peddling rumours that our Airplanes are not well maintained.
Again, it is pertinent to give a brief history of SLOK AIR INTERNATIONAL Airplanes. The six Airplanes owned by SLOK AIR INTERNATIONAL are all ex-US AIR Airplanes. The last Major Check was done and all six Airplanes were flown to The Gambia, via Romania.
The Airplanes have been flying along the West Coast for the past 11 months, servicing ten Countries namely:
Banjul, The Gambia
Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire
We now intend to expand our Services to Central Africa, Middle East, U.K, and U.S.A, in the next few months and are in the process of adding four more B737-200 Aircraft, one B757 and two B767 ER/EM to our present fleet of Six B737-200.
We have also been chartered in the past by Presidents of Some of the Countries in the Region, and also Football/basketball teams.
The UN has also chartered us on several occasions and none of them have complained of the safety of our Airplanes. On the contrary they have all commended us. SLOK AIR INTERNATIONAL has been named the “Fastest growing, safe, reliable Airline in the Continent”, and billed to pick up an award in London later in the year.
It is pertinent to note here that SLOK AIR INTERNATIONAL takes its Maintenance and Safety very serious and does not compromise on the Safety of its Airplanes.
Ever since SLOK AIR INTERNATIONAL commenced flight operations, it has maintained its Airplanes according to the approved Maintenance Programme by the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority. The ‘A’ & ‘B’ Checks have always been carried as at when due. The “C” Check is now due on two of them. This check will be carried out in France, and when the “C” Check of the other four are due, they will also be flown out to France.
You may now see why our Enemies and Competitors are bent on misleading our traveling Public with the aim of tarnishing our image and reputation as a very Reliable and Safety-conscious Airline.
We would like to use this medium to reassure our esteemed customers and the traveling Public that we will continue to provide them with our usual reliable and safe services which has earned us the award as the “Fastest growing Airline of the Continent”.
Thanks for your continued Patronage.

Well, they had me all the way up to the end...a very dignified, well-written post until the Idi Amin/Saddam Hussein/Kim Jong-Il/Fidel Castro "Our enemies are all out to get us" line. Take out that one line in the last paragraph, and it's pretty good!
