It's true, EK doesn't serve Spain at all. That is surprising to me, I guess that would be because of lack of aircraft. Actually a smart move by QR to service MAD then, they don't have EK competition there, yet, and can build up customer relationships there before EK starts.

Quoting CV580Freak (Reply 7): This is a major problem for both QR and EK and is stopping a lot of their European and US/Americas expansion plans.
But how about the airports DXB and DOH? I heard that Doha will get a new one and that QR doesn't want its A380s before that (around 2009). And EK will have to move to this Djebel Ali airport if they want to use all those planes they ordered, right?

Quoting AF022 (Reply 11): What is with the stupid schedules? Is it that difficult to schedule 3 weekly flights at the same time?
QR is still too small of an airline. They have 2 main banks at their hub and many of their destinations are not yet served daily. So this Madrid flight is planned in the way that every bank is at least connected once a week to MAD. QR has to grow even further before they can make their schedule simpler.

Quoting CV580Freak (Reply 3): Not before time as Spain is poorly served from the Middle East with neither EK or GF operating direct services.

give it some time..don't be surprised to see a DXB-MAD flight with an a 330-200 then a 777-200 then a 777-300!!

I think you are pushing your luck a bit too much with that one..they will probably go two-a-day first before bringing in the Wooly Mammoth...

27 IberiaA319: Is there really so much traffic between Qatar (or Middle East) and Spain? How many Spanish passengers will use Doha as a transfer city (or gateway) if
28 IB787: You are wrong with that, TG flights to Madrid are working very fine. Now we have 3/w MAD-FCO-BKK + 1/w non-stop MAD-BKK (2/w next summer) all operate
29 AirMale: Plus if QR is sucessfull in MAD, flights will become nonstop to DOH very quickly. A year ago QR was serving 54 destinations, now Madrid will be it's 6
30 Thorben: The old frequency issue. I guess they'll send two planes per day, but some that come from TLS, which is not too far from MAD. These planes feel home
