Saw the picture on the search page and made me wonder what was up with the bird. I haven't seen other posts about her but if anyone here knows what's going on with it, please post here.

Thanks again!

Matt

I have no information of the where-and whatabouts of N627US, but as NWA has filed for Ch.11 since this incident it is possible it will just get a rough repair and will be flown at low altitude to Marana where some of its sisterships and agemates await their fate. 26 years old and working hard all the time its among of the oldest pax-747s worldwide.
I hope that it will return to the skies though, its a smart-looking bird.

Last I heard, NWA is considering costs and one possible solution is to sink the plane in the ocean. This has been done before and supposedly helps the ocean life have a new place to grow.

LMAO!! Truly sad. Do they take the whole aircraft and dump it out to sea? What about parting it out? I mean yes, it is an old aircraft but for an airline, as NA provided, that is in CH11, any thing helps yes? Unless, do they get some tax break or something if they dump it out to sea? I want to say you are joking but w/e.

Take care,

Matt

That's not at all far-fetched. Airliners, ships, trucks, submarines and other large objects often sunk purposely to create an artificial reef. About the parts? yes the air frame is usually stripped of all usable parts before in is sunk. Several civillian aircraft are sunk off the coast of South Florida, I know of a 727-100 that was sunk back in 1994. It was originally owned by National Airlines, ended it's career with Carnival Airlines. It was sunk off the coast of Miami to create the artificial reef.
