Hello out there in a.net land, I have a question regarding the charter airline Miami Air Int'l. Recently, I have seen two of their jets here in PDX. A 737-800 in house colors (blue/green/mostly white), and a 727-200 in modified house colors with some navy on the tail and belly of the aircraft. I'm curious what operation this charter airline provides, as well as possibly: website/route network, any scheduled flights, fleet, etc.? I searched for a website but am having difficulty locating one. I know that they had a 727 on lease to Ryan Int'l Airlines and am wondering if the 727 I saw at PDX wasn't this aircraft. Also, what were these aircraft doing in PDX?

Anybody with answers, comments, rare sightings of these planes elsewhere, or any helpful information, please post here in this forum, or contact me via e-mail or AIM.

Thanks in advance for the replies!

In August 2004, I flew on Miami Air 737-800 (blue belly) from FLL to ATL. It was an Air Tran flight departing at 5:45 AM. Air Tran was leasing the plane and they used Miami Air crew. The planes are configured as one class. On the way back I flew the 737-800 in traditional colors.

They only do charter flights, no scheduled flights. I've seen them do military charters, sports charters for college football teams, and charters for tour operators (normally to warm places).

So, apparently they operate on wet-lease for scheduled carriers such as FL? Any other scheduled arlines that operate wet-leased Miami Air aircraft and crew?

Thanx

Maarten Air used Miami Air 737-800s in Maarten Air's colors for its MCO/MIA-SJO routes. It was a one year deal that I believe may be coming to an end unless their was a contract renewal I'm un aware of.

Yes, it is coming to an end. Starting in November, Martinair Holland will be using a TACA A320 painted in full Martinair Holland colours, as opposed to the Miami Air 738 which just had Martinair titles on it.

I just wish they would bring the mainline back on that route in addition to the AMS service from MCO. Nothing better than watching their crew van empty out about 10-12 hot flight attendants... Wink

Right now, most of their flights are military charters out of VCV, DOV, and the like. Stopping at Bangor/Keflavik if going to Europe

If they only have one B722, then no. Past week or so it's been going Dover AFB and other AFB's, as well as MIA

Once again, I saw a MA 738 parked on the tarmac next to two UA 733's, one in the new c/s. Is there some military contract out of PDX. The only military ops near PDX I can think of is Camp Whitycombe, an Air NAtional Gard post.
Why does this 738, same one w/o winglets keep appearing at PDX. At first on the D concourse, and now one parked along the outskirts of concourse E.
What gives here? Any ideas?

You'll see their airplanes around alot this time of year since the airline does a considerable amount of college football charters, as previously mentioned. The company was slated to do a series of charters from IAH to Siberia routing through Seattle and Anchorage for a Russian oil entity but last I heard, the contract went to another carrier, possibly Ryan Int'l.

Miami Air (737-8) is flying on behave of PY-Surinam Airways on the segment AUA-MIA and vice versa. Pax that want to continue to PBM (Paramaribo, Suriname), must check out and check back in, in Aruba, go through security and then head on to the Surinam Airways MD-82 for the flight AUA-PBM and vice versa.
I flown this flight a couple of months ago, not bad... good food, and a nice inflight movie to go with that for the 2 1/2 hr flight.

Cheers

Well, the majority of people who look at that site could careless about what the cockpit looks like, as long as it comes with 2 pilots who know what they are doing.

You're right. I flew biz in a B738 leased to Martinair.

Right again. But it's "Martinair".

Anyone know why these Miami Air jets keep showing up at PDX? Unless they are doing football charters I can't think of any other reason however I think that UO Ducks football team uses one of Phil Knights jets for travel as he is a big contributor to UO, as well as being the head of Nike

anybody else have this question about the two pictures above, where the hect are you seeing a business class in either of those pictures, or am i just too tired because it's 2am here. i pulled an old timetable, and it shows miami air dba airtran on flights to from fll, three rotations a day, and it specifically states that a/c operated by miami air offer coach service only. i believe this was last year during the time that airtran had ryan air flying the a320 out west and airtran was short on a/c through atl as they got rid of the air wisconsin flying.

In the first picture (left one) the second row from the bottom of the pic looks to be a 2-2 vs 3-3. Notice the seat looks much wider. It's tough to make out.
