Hey, In the above photo, doesn't it look like there's a USB socket next to the IFE? What would this be for?

Many thanks!

It is a USB connection. It's for a mouse or joystick - customer supplied - for playing games that will be available through the IFE.

the notice on the display hint towards AVOD. If so, then very good, otherwise AC is not know for its IFE.

Sounds like a great idea! Won't it be funny to see a load of passengers walking towards the gate with their handluggage in one hand and a joystick in the other!

There was me thinking that the photo showed a non-AOD PTV advertising the impending AVOD... looking at the large version of the pic I thought the quality of the LCD involved was amazing  Wow!

And then I read the caption...

Good for Air Canada! Why would they have PTVs (and possibly AVOD) on an ERJ and not their 767s, A330s, etc. that run international across-the-pond service?!

The whole fleet is being re-fit with PTVs and the wide bodies will start being refitted next year.

The Embraers and new CRJs came with those fittings ready to go.

It's the new Thalis i4500 system. It's going fleet wide for all aircraft 73 seats and up (EMB, CR705, Airbus narrowbody and all A and B widebodies). It is awaiting approval from regulators before AC can proceed with the implementation.

Personally, I don't want to see people walking through an airport terminal with their joystick in their hand  eyepopping

Sebring,

Last I heard was that the first Airbus narrowbodies will be equipped with it starting sometime in October. Is this timeline still feasible? I guess it depends on the time it takes certifying them...

I wonder whether the USB port would remain powered if you plugged in your USB iPod or mobile phone charger? That would be a definite plus.

Does anyone know of any other airlines who have (or will have) USB ports in Y?

What are NZ getting?
