Having not flown UA in a long, long time I am scheduled out of ANC on UA tomorrow. As is my habit I called to confirm the reservation and ensure there were no bizarre changes.
At about 2030(Alaska Time) I called the UA Reservation number and I press "3", existing reservation. And some gawddamn computer talks and talks, and there I sit talking back to the damn thing and finally, it's able to understand my Record Locator and begins to run through my reservation.
Continually saying, UA Flight 700 departing tonight at 2255 blah, blah, blah.
First of all the info was incorrect, and I knew it to be incorrect, I'm not leaving until tomorrow night. I finally managed to get that automated POS shut up long enough to get a HUMAN on the phone.
Secondly, aren't these things properly programmed? Don't they know from which time zone one is calling? Is this the norm for UA these days, these computerized voice POCs?
They are obnoxious. Please, please get rid of that computerized crap and get me a human.
Lastly, when I got a human, the experience was as pleasant as having my Prostate Checked. Spoke to me like I had never flown a day in my life.
I trust this will not be a precursor to my flights on UA . . .
Geez, I wish CO had a decent, quick connection to BHM - and would accept my US miles!!!

I m sorry, but this made me laugh.
I felt the same way when i called AA Res to list myself, i actually just wanted the number made for it. i had to go through 5 min of computer which finnally understood that none of the choices pleased me. Transfer me to a human, quick service really welcoming at first but when i told him i want the phone number to list myself. He told me "you have the wrong number, you need to call this number and hung up"
Lol that s what i called for at first, if he would of listened. But i got myself listed no problem.
I still think that we should all provide service at the same standard, you never know who calls you.

I got an automated call last week stating I had to call UA and get the changes. I call the 800 # and get India (well,at least someone who sounded Indian) I could barely understand him , and I deal with people @ work who don't speak great English,too!)

Today UAX cancelled a flight out of SAV (Plane drifted off the side of the taxiway while heading out to the active for the flight to IAD - Sounds like someone was down on River St. here in SAV a little to long to me) And the people on that flight came to us (DH) to buy tickets. Some of these people spent hours and I do mean hours on the phone going through these stupid computerized crap waiting to get someone to talk to. I dont know if United has so many people calling and not enough res agents or what but it is getting crazy. Waiting hours to talk to someone just to find out if they can recieve a refund is a bit crazy to me, but hey, maybe not......I just know I would not be sitting there forever.

Glad to see you going to my hometown of BHM! Are you routing through DEN or ORD? I suspect DEN because that is the CRJ 700 with first. The skywest crews that are on that flight are FANTASTIC. One of the pilots who lives here in San Antonio even gave me his e-mail and said he would fly with me to give me an employment reccomendation.

I think those systems are here to stay. And I hate to tell you, but Continental's Gordon Bethune praises (or so he said in his book, "From Worst To First"..an excellent read) the very system you are talking about.
They depersonalize the experience and aggrevate people. Too bad humans are too expensive to deal with what some consider mundane tasks (i.e. reconfirming flights, getting seat assignments, etc...).
So ANC, as I've said before, we'd sure like to have you back on Delta...we'll get you there!!

I'm sure . . . just like reservation centers in far off lands where the person on the other end of the phone couldn't find their ass let alone Pittsburgh with both hands and a squad of Infantry. Unfortunately.
