Another interesting article in FI this week,
"Jet Airways is seriously considering future orders for ultra large A380 as well as the A350 or 787."
"Chairman Naresh Goyal says "We are seriously studying the A380 and we are seriously studying the 787 and A350. We are studying the A380 because we all know the costs will keep going up, and the fares will keep coming down""
On 777 orders options Goyal says Jet originally planned to split the 10 firm orders between 200LR + 300ER, but opted for all 300ER as "we are still studying the economics of the 200LR. We will look at the LR in the 10 options."

This is no sensation. 9W is in an expansion move, and with the new bilats and permissions they would be foolish NOT to study every possible option - airlines do always study their fleet management

More than anything else, with S2 committing hara-kiri with their "incident" at BOM, 9w can be expected to move ahead full steam now. And everybody wants to be in India.

We will be seeing more and more of this mentality from airlines across the world especially those in Asian Countries. The A380 will set new standards into seat mile costs. We should expect Air India to start to take a look into the A380 as well.

Once again this proves that the ULH market is very limited. For this reason I believe that Qantas will not order the B777-200LR or the A340-500 in the immediate future.

they might..the LHR-SYD non-stop is too lucerative to be ignored.
I may sound cynical, but as for 9W I'd rather wait till they make their maiden flight to North America before getting excited about aircraft they are "considering". Airlines the world over do it all the time.

I fully agree with Wings. I know people who went on the AC YYZ-DEL nonstop, as well as people who went on the JFK-SIN nonstop.. both Business people and private pax said that such a long nonstop is insane and upsets the body. It might be a good starter for someone and good experience, but in the long term it is hard to believe that people regularly fly these a/c.. maybe in a luxury version, but that will be only possible for few people
As for me only, I would rather prefer a milk-run to a nonstop to the states.. better travel a little relaxed, read, stopover somewhere than this "jaldi, jaldi, jaldi" - I just realized again how much I prefer a train overnight journey to an early morning flight, as my company had sent me to BHO

Jet and the A380, imagine how beautiful their livery would look on an A380. What destinations would Jet serve with it, if they would indeed order it? If Jet goes ahead with the planned BOM-BRU-EWR flight, it could be the only chance for BRU to have regular passenger service with an A380, I think.

Not the first time we heard that 9W is looking at the A380.
In fact Airbus expect 9W , be the second Indian customer , before AI.
Referring to an Airbus study , India will need about 20 A380s.
This study has been made , only with current grow.
Nobody know how the grow will be in the future , so 20 frames , is probably the smallest number of A380s needed by India.

This seems to me like the perfect opportunity for Airbus to package the a350 and a380 together in a sweet deal, perhaps like Kingfisher undoubtetly got. BTW, curious that they didn't mention the 747adv.

only if it gets filled, otherwise, its going to be one VERY expensive plane to fly!

not given their recent Boeing order they won't (if it goes through)

sux....looks like Boeing will have to get rid of the 9W tail sign from their 777-200LR (last one on the left in the photo below)...maybe they will add QF/EK/BA though to the list..

There is no JFK-SIN nonstop. The nonstop is EWR-SIN. The one stopper is from JFK. And at least there is one person that I know (me) who has flown the nonstop a few times and likes it quite a bit more than the one stopper. It has no additional adverse effect on the body or mind as far as I can tell.
Quoting Zeke (Reply 10):
SQ seem to charge the same for a direct Singapore-New York as a one stopper.
But actual fare paid for discounted tickets is much much lower on the one stopper than on the nonstop.

thanks for stating the obvious.......
Quoting BlueSky1976 (Reply 14): It will get filled. It's India we're talking about, not the US.
true, but there is beaucoup amounts of competition coming.......
Quoting JetMaster (Reply 15):
The largest aircraft in that order is the B77W, so the A380 could still be an option for future growth.
that's true, but I think it will be years before they purchase a plane like the A380, I would say they will go with the 744ADV first (if its released)
they first need to privatise the airline company......then take it from there (thats after they finalise the purchase of the 787 and 777's... )

I personally prefer the 773ER instead of the 747Adv....... the A380 could pay off in the future but as many people stated not anytime soon
787 or A350 ........... hmmmm tough choice.

I agree, the non-stop service is a great option. But it seems like it would be used mainly by the business traveller who cant waste the few hours guaranteed with a stop over. Also the Biz traveller isnt crammed up and can handle the long flight better.
