Former British Cargo operator has a 747-200 parked (?) as Stansted.

Just to recap for those who are unaware of the situation:

AFX Cargo were launched as a Heathrow based Freight only airline in the late 1990's. Following the sucess of it's transatlantic services, the company expanded and added extra capacity.

AFX leased and operated a 747-200 from ILFC. Extra capacity came in the form of a 747-200 leased from Atlas Air Cargo.

Flights from LHR to the US beame daily, and the extra aircraft was based on LUX, and operated to and from the Far East.

A year later, AFX purchased the leased 747 from ILFC and became the owner/operator, and extended the lease with Atlas for 3 years.

AFX crewed both A/C.

Due to poor maintainance of the Atlas A/C, Atlas used clauses in the lease, and cancelled the lease as a result.

This left AFX with to many routes and not enough aircraft. The loss of key contracts as a result, saw AFX move into financial trouble.

As a result, AFX were left with a poor on-time performance and a bad reputation.

AFX finally went under.....but......they knew they were going under, they paid all there bills, (YES THE DID), and wound up oweing nobody anything.

In the dead of night in the early 2000's they flew into STN for what was listed as maintainance.

In the next few days, the aircraft was striped of all usable parts, and these were sold. This renevue was used to pay the engineers doing the job.

When the plug was pulled, a 747 was left parked at STN.

The maintainance company telling BAA that they airline had "collected it" and it was no longer there problem.

BAA were left with an unflyable 747.

The aircraft has since been parked near the Business Park.

So the question is:

IF AFX owed no money to anyone, who owns the A/C now?

The aircraft is being left to rot...it's seen no TLC since is was "dumped".

Can BAA claim ownership?
Is this how BAA got there TRI-STAR at STN?
