What's Up With The Star Alliance Website?

I am buying a ticket from Calgary to Rio de Janeiro so I decided to check the Star Alliance website to look at routes and pricing, since my Canadian FF points can now be used with them due to the merger.

I input "economy class" and "fewest number of connections" as my criteria for ticket selection. They came back with this itinerary:


Why I'd want to fly to London and Madrid to get to Rio is beyond me.

The return leg was:


It's a common return route....but still not the most efficient.

The round trip price was $ 6,213.80 CDN !!!

I always fly YYC to LAX to GIG..............or YYC to YYZ to GRU then change airports and go GRU to SDU. The price is between $ 1,200 to $ 1,350 CDN !!!

Go figure !!!
