View Deck of Terminal 1 to be closed at FRA, the day that the A 380 is about to land.
The "Frankfurter Rundschau" states, that Fraport will close the view deck this day, because of security reasons.
They were also talking that lots of people will be at the "Okrifteler Straße" and the "Luftbrücken Denkmal" on the A5, where lots of spotters are.
My question is, what the hell am I gonna do? I really want to see the A 380 live, but I have no idea how to get to those points.
Anyone got some suggestions?
I mean I got an Airport I.D. though, but I have no idea how far I am gonna get with it that day.

Hey A346, if you got an airport ID you should be able to get quite close. As far as i know the positioning tests with the A380 will be at position E9 thats at the very end of terminal 2. Right next to that position is the street where the internal bus runs towards the Cargo City South. Just get off at the nearest bus stop and find a good spot at the fence ( i assume you wouldn't be the only one...). On the other hand i don't know whether Fraport will block that street to make sure all employees stay in their offices and don't gather on that street.
You could also go to the "Wekstaettenkantine" which is also just there. From the windows you have a perfect view all over the T2 apron, and nothing will be obstructing your view on position E9....
Well those are the best spots that i can think of. McDonalds should be fine for landing and taxiing but i don't think you can see as far as E9...

Quoting Slarty (Reply 3): Not likely... I suspected that they wanted to ensure that a riot situation didn't occur when tens of thousands of rabid A380 fans couldn't get access to an already full viewing deck.
So typical of the current German way of thinking....they've almost become as bad as the Americans....everything is a "security risk". Yes, there will be a lot of people wanting to see the A380. Who wouldn't? Yes, Deck 1 has a limited capacity and Deck 2 has been closed for "security reasons". Why can't they simply open both decks and go by the first come first serve method. When the decks are full they close them. Tough luck for those whose don't get admitted. To get on the decks you have to have bags serched anyway so what's the problem?
I guess they prefer to have tons of people lining up along the perimeter roads and blocking them totraffic. Now here an actual security risk because there is no way to control these people. Although I assume they will have lots of police/military patrolling telling people to get out because its "Verboten" to be there. Welcome to the modern world 2005!

Thanks alot Chris,
I guess I am gonna make a dry run before the 29th to check out the best locations. The best would be if we'd had a spotter here who could tell us the best places.
Well, now the only question that is left on what RWY the A380 will land, either 7 or 25, anyone knows how to find out?

well if 7 or 25 that depends on the operations that day, but think i read somewhere (i think it was another thread in this forum) that it will definitely be the northern runway.
Well, that's all i "know" about it. Hope you get to see it somewhere close up...
btw if you can't find a good spot you can also drive up and down the A3, from there you can see position E9 quite well (if only for 1 second or so...). Well actually i would expect some traffic jams that day as the first person on the A3 who sees the A380 being parked there will certainly cause a crash...

hey guys, just paid my first visit to the terrace at FRA the other day, really enjoyed it. Was just wondering if anyone can confirm that it is due to shut permanently from the end of this month whilst LH extend there biz lounge? If they aren't, i will definately try and hope over again next month!

As you are from Germany you should now what happens when Mr. Schulz/Mueller or Schmidt is the first one to face the closed deck after 100s of other Schmidts/Schulzs or Muellers entered it mins before? A loud shouting crowd would be the best thing which can happen...we're still in Germany.

Shall be closed on 31st December this year...but there are as many rumors as people wanting to see the A-380@FRA.
