Alaska Airlines and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) today jointly announced ratification of a new four-year contract for the airline's 700 aircraft technicians. The contract provides long-term stability for these employees, who are responsible for ongoing line maintenance activities on the airline's fleet.
Of the 565 aircraft technicians who cast votes, 88 percent chose to accept the new contract.

"Line maintenance is a core function of Alaska Airlines," said Alaska's CEO Bill Ayer. "This new contract recognizes that fact and will provide these dedicated employees with market-based wages for years to come." Ayer thanked the union leadership for its role in reaching the contract and thanked the company's aircraft technicians for their patience and professionalism, especially during the challenging summer months and throughout the course of contract negotiations.

The aircraft technicians group is one of six bargaining units representing various Alaska Airlines employees. The dispatcher group ratified a new five-year contract extension in July. The pilot group is operating under contract terms set by an arbitrator that are amendable in 2007. The clerical, office and passenger service group and the ramp service and stores agents group are currently engaged in mediated negotiations. The flight attendants group is in the process of setting dates for mediated negotiations.
