If I want to get to see ATA L-1011s, what airports give me the best opportunities?

DFW? BWI? Anywhere else?

Can anyone give me any details? I'm looking to make a weekend trip of it from NYC and to get some photos.

Thanks,

They come into BWI quite frequently, but there's no set schedule since it's all Air Mobility Command flights for the military. Lately, we've been getting more World MD11s and Omni DC10s though.

Frankfurt

With the airbase part of the airport closed now, I doubt we'll be seeing too many of those Tristars here from now on... but it's always been a nice way to get to see some planes and airlines you usually just don't see in Europe...

Frank

So with what frequency would you say they come into BWI? Once a day maybe?

If I went there for a day or two, what would my chances be of getting one?

At DFW, you can count on an average of 4 TZ L-1011-500s per week, with the other 3-4 R&R flights being North American B-767-300ERs or World or Omni DC-10-30s or MD-11s.

A good place to see the L-1011s is near the General Avaition Ramp, as that is where they are towed to if they spend more than a few hours at DFW.

I'm not kidding about this: YQX and BGR are good places to see the Tristars, as is SNN. But you'd probably be bored the rest of the time.

Right now, DFW is probably a better bet than BWI.

Best,

Bill

Some days it's two a day and then it'll dry up for a bit. In the mid-summer we were getting a lot of L1011 traffic and since September it's tapered off quite a bit. I'm in the midst of 24 straight days at work and am yet to see one since October 1st.

I wish that I could give youa firmer answer on their frequency here, but lately it's been quite hit or miss.
