Dear friends,

for my flight from Paris-CDG, AF 84 to San Francisco next april with my wife and my son, I would like to obtain 3 good economy seats on the right side of the plane before the wing to make some pictures about the North Atlantic and the greenland.

So can you please tell me what are the seat numbers to reserve, because the Air France 747-400 model has 2 possible configuration, and I don't know wich one is in service to SFO:
* 40J and 393 Y
* 17J and 457 Y

Thanks a lot for your help.

Best regards. DID747

Just wondering... wouldn't the left side of the plane have better shots?

I think you get the 40J and 393Y configuration.

Are those the only 2 Air France 744's configurations there are?
Seat guru shows the 17J and 457 Y config (CIO), and another 17F/58J/327Y.

 Confused

This configuration will be history very soon, First Class dissapears from all AF 747's.

^I see....so it is 40J/393Y for regular non CIO flights, like SFO, right?
Is this with the new business class?

The quality of the Y is as good as in the 330/340/777 flights right? Not inferior, like in the CIO flights I suppose. I just ask this because 393Y and only 40J is an odd configuration for a regular longhaul 744.

Seat Guru sucks ! NO AF's B744 have ever been configured like this.
The 3 Class config. was 13P (Front) / 58J (28 seats main deck between doors 1 & 2 + 30 seats at the U/D) / 324 Y .

7 a/c still retain this 3 class config :

F-GEXA : Will be modified from Dec.12 to Jan.14 2006
F-GISA : will not be modified. Will be converted into a freighter.
F-GISB : idem
F-GISC : will be modified from Jan.16 to Feb.11 2006
F-GISE : will be modified from Oct.17 to Nov.18
F-GITH : will be modified from Nov.14 to Dec.12
F-GITI : will be modified from Dec.13 to Mar 11. 2006

Another question as I probably fly on AF 744 later this year. Do they have PTV in Y class? The ultimate PTV threads weren't helpful enough. Some, 3 or so, had at this time. What's up now? And is it possible to pre-book a seat even when I got the flight via a package tour?
Georg.

FlySSC has probably more information about this.

Sure, just call AF's reservation hotline when you know your flight details.

I understand the only fleet which will have First Class will be the 777s

This is correct. Only the 772's and 773's will offer a First Class in the future.

Patrick, definitely First Class is more and more strange in the airline business.

I noticed the same, a few examples: IB got rid of it, LH's new 346's don't have it, only AF's 777's have it, etc.

But no wonder, most companies book their employees only in Eco or Biz Class when they have to go on a business trip, even management employees get usually a seat in Biz and not in First anymore. And which normal person can pay a First Class flight? I would say that there are just a few.

Indeed they are the senior management staff in the world's main companies.

Example about it can be AF keeps First Class in cities which are very important on the Business word: New York, Tokio, Hong Kong, Singapore, Los Angeles, etc...

It's a fact that first is disapearing(at least gettint rare), but it was said here in the forum that the new LH A346 (from the second order) will have 1st class.
