Good news for Slovenia, Adria will start weekly (Wednesday) flights to Birmingham next summer. This complements daily LGW flights and twice weekly MAN schedules.

Great news for BHXBig grin

Will this be a A319 or CRJ-200 service?

A shame it's not daily!

Any plans to expand LGW and MAN?

A daily service wouldbe overkill!!! A suprising route which I expect to be operated by CRJ. A319 too big.

As they don't have any A319's it will be a A320.

LGW services were running at pretty much full capacity at times this summer, a daily service with 6 A320's and 1 CRJ a week. This indicates a double daily service could be sustained a few days a week, possibly with a CRJ.

Not sure how MAN faired this summer, a weekly winter service could be looked into though?

There is the possibility GLA services may restart in the near future.

Gosh thats a lot of flights to the UK for such a small country as Slovenia. I know the lakes and mountains are beautiful but how is Adria filling those flights to Ljubljana?

It is an area not as well know to Brits as Croatia which was heavily visited by Brits when it formed part of Yogoslavia.

AFAIK, it's always been a summer only service.

There's a certain amount of VFR traffic on flights to Ljubljana. Bearing in mind that the two weekly flights cater for the whole of northern England, and hitherto the Midlands, it doesn't seem too much like overkill.

MAN-LJU was served for just one year in the winter. BHX weekly is a good idea instead of a third MAN flight. A weekly EDI or GLA would be a good move too. Even DUB sustains twice weekly summer flights.

Adria have been full this year from LGW, U2 also serve the cheap end of the market from STN with much success. JP could easily operate 10 flights a week from LGW in the summer.

Bear in mind too that the coastal resorts of Istrian Croatia are only 90 minutes drive from LJU. I used the service last year due to the lack of flights into PUY. PUY has very limited service from the UK, and the nearest airports with regular international service are LJU and TRS.

You will also find some tour ops using LJU for twin centres holidays in the area.

This is interesting news from Adria. Slovenia is more and more popular with Brits and others around Europe. It is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful countries in Europe (In the top 5 for sure).

I have been surprised that LJ and Maribor haven't seen more LCC interest. There is the Daily Stansted-Ljubljana and Berlin - Ljubljana with Easyjet but nothing more, strange when u think of the tourist boom.

I would love to see an airline Sky Europe opening a hub in LJ (it can be small - just like Slovenia  smile  ) Routes could be:
Amsterdam (Dutch love to travel)
Rome Ciampino (there are no direct flights between rome and LJ)
London Luton (we need cheaper than easyjet, which is often relatively expensive to LJ)
Barcelona or Madrid...(Slovenes have incomes equal if not greater to Greece and Portugal, and leisure travel should be developed)

Also...Ryanair should consider Maribor..which would open up both eastern Slovenia and the million people who live in and around Zagreb - just 1.5hours south

Just some ideas...someone write to SKy Europe

I'm surprised FR haven't got into MBX yet, but JP do a great job from LJU, in the next year they will open routes to FCO, BHX and they have just started WAW. JP are reliable and make a profit and also use there CRJ and A320's to great effect matching the market perfectly. Don't forget they also operated VIE-FRA for many years to great success.

Tour Operators. Take this BHX flight for instance. Apparently has been marketed for the tour operators, although will actually operate as a schedueld flight, enabling Adria to sell some capacity itself. Imagine the same is true for the other flights. Slovenia isn't exactly Mallorca, but I imagine with it being the only service in the Midlands, they'll be able to get decent loads from the tour ops.

flycro

adrias vie/fra flights are heavily backed by lh/os as they needed additional competition inorder to get the ec approval for codesharing between austria and germany they started flying before airberlin and germanwings!

the flights are used by non revs as there is allways space on them !

neverthless adria is a very dobre airline !
