What can I say about DFW.I have been there before but only to transfer for a connecting flight never for a prolonged period of time.I was impressed over the fact that all 7 of the runways were used.American owns the airport (which is nothing new)and Delta gives a valliant effort.I stayed at the Harvey hotel which gave me views of the entire airport and all of the runways.American eagle flights using runway 13 L and runway 17 L was only used during the busy times for arrivals.I could not get over how many md-80's that I saw and it seemd as though the airport really slowed down after 10:30pm or so. I am sort of use to all of the South American departures taking off from MIA from 11pm-12:45am.The big news on tv was the intl terminal with 23 gates at 1.2 billion dollars. So to sum it up DFW is about as bust as they come and I will be looking very forward to living within minutes from the airport. The Texas hospitality was incredible and the overall area was very esay on the eye.

Glad to here that you liked DFW! Did you have a chance to go to Founder's Plaza (the "viewing" area on the south end of the airport)? Usually if they are using the south-facing runways (17L in particular) jets taxi within about 200 feet of you!

Did you go up to the swimming pool area on top of the hotel - You get some stellar views of the airport from there. Landings on 17L are probably under a 100 feet overhead! You can literally feel it ...

I've flown on 9V-SPK.

supposedly i heard the viewing area is in the worst part of the airport, and [in] the airport(not the hotels,i mean the terminals) those have great panoramic views of the airport, at least i think but I havent stayed at a hotel in dallas since i have a house there but i want to stay at one of the hotels in DFW(you probably know why) but anyway, glad things were good at DFW and let me be the first to welcome you to Big D! it has been raining lately so right now there is no drought, more like floods!

The observation area alias founders plaza is pretty good. but it gets old after a while, but dfw is the best airport to watch planes, just drive around the roads and you will find alot better spots!

What are you moving to DFW for? If you are living in an apartment and not a house with a garage, be sure to get an apartment WITH covered parking! Springtime is really bad for hail around the DFW area!

Yes, I know DFW very well. I like that airport a lot. A good place to spot aicrafts landing is the Marriott Hotel near the airport, if they land on RWY 17L. I've been there many times because I have my aunt who lives in Dallas. Although I always fly American regardless of where I go, I have never been through DFW just for a connecting flight. I go to DFW always for the reason I mentioned above. Like we all know, DFW is American's super mega hub. You don't see that many 767's there, still a few 727's, two or three 777's on a whole day, no NG737's yet, but you see a lot of 757's and MD-80's, especially MD-80's. Sometimes if you look carefully, you can see a whole bunch of Super 80's taxiing in line one behind the other, or waiting in the middle of the tarmac like a group of birds standing on the ground close to each other. It's unbeleivable! DFW doesn't look like it's busy because it's a very big airport in terms of area. This airport handles over 60 million passengers a year. I'm sure that at least two thirds of that fly American.
Doug, good luck in your new job at DFW.
