I think it was back in the late 70's / early 80's a photographer published a book of photographs of a red couch being put in all kind of situations and places. Indoors, outdoors, rooftops, etc. I wonder if this is for the next edition of that book.....

True. there are some fences, but that's only at access roads with the runways. at some runways there are even big parking areas with a french fries stand. Most runways have dedicated spotting areas. Spotting at AMS is still a joy and nobody bothers you, unless of course you try to swimm across the ditch or climb a fence...
And today in the news comes the end of this. Schiphol is closing "illegal" spotting areas, such as the polderbaan, and only will allow three areas, Kaagbaan, the terrace (wich I would hardly call a spotters area) and the buitenveldertbaan.
