Quoting BA319-131 (Reply 1): One has to question if they actually need an airline, who wants to travel they and why?
Well, considering many airlines fly into Khartoum and continue to do so (LH, KL, BA, EK, QR, MS, ET, IY, KQ, Syrian. RJ, SV etc.), there obviously is a need for air transportation and a need for an airline. SD was never well managed and always had issues. The US also has beef with the country, and if I am not mistaken had embargos set on it. SD is an oil producing country, and that industry allows for high fare paying pax.
Now, with that aside, I see some change in SD's schedules, which consist of flights operated by A300s, B732s and B722s! Yes, B722s! SD will reach the Middle East, Cairo, East Africa with the posted schedules: whether it will make the trips or not is anyone's guess. But they're there, and effective early next month. I do not see London on the network.
In case anyone wants to know re: service to Khartoum Sudan:
- BA/BMed: 4x per week
- LH: 3x per week
- KL: 2x per week
- EK: 6x per week
- and more...

Probably the day when SD will order new planes is not tomorrow.
But when this day will come , they will go Airbus , as recently the European manufacturer scratched the debts they have , if they buy Airbusses when they will be able to do so.

They might just do that, lease A's. They have operated 320s, though I do not know whether wet or dry leased. In any case, they could do well by focusing on a niche oil industry market (however little it may be).

SD makes for great variety here in Dubai, especially with the leased aircraft, be it A310 (from Saga), B727 (from Mahfooz), B737-200 (from Aviogenex), Yak 42 (from Irbis) and there was even a SD colored AN26!
SHJ is the capital for Sudanese freighters, mostly IL76 but also 707 and DC-8!
Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been...

I have to say, that 787 looks pretty nice in SD colours!

I agree with Fly-K. SD are one of the more 'colourful' carriers to serve the UAE. Here is a picture I took at AUH, of YU-ANP - a B737-2K3/Adv leased from Aviogenex:
