Hi Kevin

you have said in your thread that it is official - but I have just looked at SQ website under press releases and also done a google news search - I couldn't find anything - could you please post the link for your official source

thanks

Andrew

Isn't a long trip to serve DME via DXB ? Was it better if the flight continue to CPH for example,or will SQ take profit from the Emirati open sky ?

If this is indeed "official", it clearly shows SQ's intention to tap into the very vibrant Moscow-Dubai market . . . as well as Moscow-Singapore (and beyond).

Singapore and the UAE do indeed have an Open Skies Agreement that makes this an easy route to operate without any bureaucratic hitches.

With a stop in DXB, I figure that they would probably be using the 3 class configured B772 with regional F/J rather than the 2 class "Spacebed" equipped metal. Could this possibly be due to the fact that all their 2 class Spacebed aircraft are fully deployed on other routes apart from the attraction of 5th freedom rights between DXB and DME?

SQ will be competing with EK, PIA and Aeroflot on this highly demanded DXB-DME-DXB route.

PIA flies 2 weekly A 310s offering cheap fares on this 5th freedom sector. Their loads on DXB-SVO-DXB average 75% and constitute to be the main backbone of the flight as the O&D between KHI and SVO is next to nothing.

Now with SQ added into the mix, PIA will suffer.

SQ should now focus on flying to key African cities via DXB where untapped demand exists.

Could DXB become a mini-hub for SQ? Do SQ enjoy 7th freedom rights from DXB?

I was wondering about the equipment for this route too. Could anyone confirm this? It is quite a long flight to fly SIN-DME with a regional F/J seats.

I don't think anyone is going to be able to confirm the equipment until the route is confirmed - at this stage despite the topic saying "it's official" there is no press release on SQ's website and nothing in Google news - it is still very much "unofficial" even if someone has an inside source which has leaked them some info.

I don't think 7th freedoms would matter unless SQ plans on changing gauge (which I don't think they do)

What I envisioned was SQ operating flights west from DXB to a larger number of destinations using smaller aircraft connecting to (a perhaps smaller number of) DXB-SIN flights operated by larger aircraft. Already, CAI-DXB is lightly loaded compared to the DXB-SIN continuation. With four destinations west of DXB, it becomes possible to fly 3x/4x per week using one aircraft on a captive rotation that connects to twice daily DXB-SIN service. With some larger number of ex-DXB destinations, it becomes compelling if the rights are there.
