I apologize if this has been discussed before. Starting Nov 1 DL starts flying the MD88 on the Shuttle, initially flying 2 MD88's on the BOS-LGA side with more coming in stages throughout the 1st two weeks in November, looks like the last Shuttle 733 flight is Nov.12th My question for you DL tech ops people on here, are they all getting the Shuttle single class interior and Shuttle titles or this coming later ?

Regards

LGA777

from delta.com:

"From November 2005 to the Summer of 2006, the Delta Shuttle will be replacing its 737-300G aircraft with MD-88 aircraft, configured as a single-class cabin with 134 leather seats. Before all the planes have been reconfigured, you may notice several two-class MD-88 aircraft in the Delta Shuttle fleet beginning in November 2005."

i hope that helps.

A 733G ? Must be a typo, they mean the 733, right ?
And 134 seats in a MD-88 sounds very comfy !

Exceptions confirm the rule.

733G is an internal DL code (its not a 73G or 737-700) - DL uses the 737-300G for its 733s with a glass cockpit. DL has two sets of 733s, one with older mechanical instruments, those being the aircraft that DL acquired in the Western Airlines merger. When Western ordered its early build 737-300s (which are older than some of the 732s in the DL fleet), it specified mechanical instruments (as did US) for commonality with their 732 fleet......at DL these are the 733s. DL picked up additional 733s on the secondhand market (mainly from Germania I think) and these aircraft have the newer, and now more common, glass cockpits....at DL these are the 733Gs, G being for glass cockpit.

It is widely expected that DL will terminate the leases on the 733Gs - its a small subfleet and, from what we have heard, the lease rates are rather high.

With 134 seats, do the MD-88s have a 35-36 inch seat pitch?

I thought that a 150-seat MD-88, with 32 in seat pitch, could generate more revenue as DL would be able to sell 16 more seats?

DL and US command high premiums on the Shuttle routes so one of the ways DL has decided to keep passengers on the Shuttle happy is by offering extra leg room.

As DL tries to simplify its fleet, many expect that DL will retire their 733 fleet - both glass and classic cockpit versions.

All DL 733s as well as 732s will be retired within the next year or so.

To be replaced by...well who knows.
