Just a fun topic about airline call signs, the ones you like, the ones you'd change etc...

My Fav as its most appropraite and basically just useful is:

BMIbaby's : 'Baby' call sign. Short simple to the point.

The old ones bore me, such as Air Canada etc (as much as i love the airline)...

My favorite of all time is National's (the LAS one) "Red Rock"

I also like Eagle Flight (American Eagle), Cactus (America West) and Citrus (AirTran)

"Waterski" - Trans States
"Candler" - ASA

I like these because the reasons for the name aren't entirely intuitive. I know the reasons, as I assume the regular a.netters do.

Good ones for me are:

ScotAirways "Suckling" Say it with a cold/flu....sounds rude !!!  Smile
Titan Airways "Zap" Sounds like a Batman Cartoon.  Smile

But my favourite is:

VLM Airlines "Rubens" The artsist was born in VLM's Home town...very distinctive and sounds like nothing else......

I'm old fashioned. My favorite is the current unit I'm working with.

There is nothing like it when you hear JFK ATC talking to Springbok Heavy, SA, on approach to JFK.

Pacific Blue use the callsign 'BlueBird', and who can forget Speedbird?

For me it's got to be:

"Speedbird" - BA
"Springbok" - SA (just waiting until NZ changes theirs to "All Black")
"Cactus" - HP

Good stuff.

Cheers

These few make me laugh:
Air Southwest WOW - Swallow
Pegasus Airlines - SunTurk
Hello/BritishJet - FlyHello - once I heard MAN ATC use FlyHotel

FlyJet - Envoy - why? I remember seeing it being used by another carrier

Quoting Cubsrule (Reply 13):

Atlantic Coast Airlines - Callsign: "BlueRidge"

I'm fairly sure that the UAE Royal Family's callsign for them is Amiri. The Sultain of Brunei also has a funny callsign if I remember correctly.

Yeah, they're good. The callsign Speedbird One kind of says it all really. If only there was another SST.

The others all need to change theirs to something more creative.
American => Cowboy (because their hub is DFW)
Qantas => Zippy (the bush kangaroo)
Ryanair => Freebie
Easy => Slapper
Virgin => Bling bling

Atlantic Coast Airlines changed its three-letter identifier and callsign with the FAA when it changed to Independence Air. It's three-letter code is now IDE and its callsign is Independence Air.
