Oooh, that means no F seats on the outbound . . . damn I hate that . . . if I pay for it, I expect it.

I suppose, however, the alternative might be no ride at all . . . nonetheless, what will UA do to compensate those F pax . . .

Why would they use this a/c as a sub when it doesnt have an F class?

What do restaurants do when they've run out of the item that you ordered?

What do car rental places do when they run out of the class of car you booked?

You be the judge.

When i was commuting out of BDL to ORD right after ted go started crew planning decided that they could swap the 156 seat ted airbus for a 180ish seat 757 because they were short equipment and the 757 was only booked to like 170 so they were only going to have to deny boarding to 14 or so people instead of canceling a flight. in their cleaver planning they neglected to realize that the 757 had 19 confirmed passengers booked in the first class cabin. oops

A few weeks ago I rode N401UA which was in transition from UA to Ted. It's exterior has been painted Ted, but the interior wasn't reconfigured yet, so it was still flying typical UA routes. Just a thought that this might be the same situation since I didn't see any Ted N449UA pictures anywhere, only UA livery.

There are a couple of newly painted TED planes which haven't got their interiors converted over to TED standards yet. So calm down dude.

Tell you, and since you haven't paid yet, it isn't a big deal. And one would assume the other food they sell isn't mcdonalds hamburgers.

Get an earful because you expect a reservation to mean something was actually reserved for you. From Seinfeld: "I know what the word reservation means, sir." "Obviously, you don't!"

Oh, and they usually give you the next class UP for no additional cost.

Neither of these has to do with PAYING for an F seat and then not getting one. And there's no such thing as better than F.

But sounds like this plane may have had F.

I debated on even posting this...I didn't think it was that big of a deal. But when a*ses like this make these kind of replies, I'll just keep quiet next time. I'm thinking about cancelling my subscription because of jerks like this....I get all the info I need with or without the lousy $5.

My comment was towards ANCflyer, and not you. He is one of those guys that had his bags lost ten years ago on United. So he likes to complain about United all the time.

I actually flew that plane on Friday from ORD to SEA which is the same plane that continues on to ANC which would be the plane that people saw. I can confirm that the plane is only painted in the Ted livery and that the actual interior of the plane is the standard UA A320 with three rows of first class. It was quite different to look out and see that yellow winglet.

The weird thing is that I heard some people thinking that it was a Ted flight. They were trying to figure out the difference between Ted and mainline. I didn't correct them to say that this wasn't a Ted flight and that it was a normal mainline flight.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

OK, RampRat . . . UA hasn't lost a bag of mine since 1992 . . . US, AS and CO have, but not UA. Furthermore, I maintained a UA Premier Exec status for 5 years and just two weeks ago completed a great trip on UA (in F) from ANC-BHM and back . . . please feel free to indulge yourself at this link . . .

Sooooo, RampRat . . . perhaps you'd like a little Hollandaise with the Crow you're eating? Or do you prefer to eat your own words sans condiments?

There are some great deals out there, if you look for them . . . there are times you can get a discounted F fare for just a bit more as a high end Y fare . . .

I quite agree though, that most pax in F are upgrades due to FF status. While they probably paid a Y fare, they are shoveling $$$ at their favorite carrier, and the perk of sitting up front is expected . . . given the Cattle Car conditions in Y these days, losing out on that perk is a big deal to some . . .

I work for UAL and didnt know we offered a discount in F class.

You see a lot fo companies buying full C international for their employees, but I rarely see a full F domestically, then again we don't see many mainline in COSSad

Just a few quick points -

- Even if you didn't pay for "full F" - on United, chances are that you spent *something* extra (miles, 500 milers, other upgrade certs) to ride up front since United doesn't offer free upgrades for elite members like other carriers do.

- United compensates downgraded passengers through use of downgrade kits. I don't know exactly what they consist of, but I believe you're refunded the difference in fare (if paid F) or re-deposited upgrades. There may be some additional extras (bonus miles, travel vouchers, etc.) offered to make amends because of the inability to meet customer expectations of what was offered and sold.

- United does indeed offer discount F seats, sometimes for less than full-Y. If you can view tariffs you can see different fares for first. There are also free upgrades from Y class, these used to be booked in A but I'm not sure if that's the case anymore.

There will be many more mainline flights operated by TED-painted planes over the next month. UA is converting either 9 or 11 planes over an approximately 2 month period. The paint comes first, the seat change several weeks later. Many confused customers and agents when they see the "TED" plane pull into the gate. Big relief when they find out it's only the paint.

Domestic F sucks anyway...although UA's is still pretty cool (at least it was when I flew winter 2003). Got a nice roast beef sandwich, some ice cream, cookies, and a couple of bloody mary's on a SAN-ORD redeye! But it is really not worth it for me, 4 hours in an "uncomfortable" Y-seat is no problem for me. At least UA still offers a full F whereas I've heard Delta has scaled back F that it resembles European style biz-class instead of F.
