Just doing a little research trying to unfold some of the ghosts of aviations past. I was just curious what airlines used to go in to Pakistan that don't now? I know LX once did and they made $$ on that route. What other airlines flew to Pakistan in the past? Why did they pull out and when?

JAT Yugoslav Airlines, to/via KHI to other points in Asia and Australia with Boeing 707's and DC-10's, many, many, many years ago. All routes were subsequently rerouted exclusively via DXB.

Along with LX, AF, KL and LH all flew to KHI-as I've flown on all of them to Pakistan.... bigthumbsup

..heck, I've even flown on the original Pan Am to KHI.... biggrin

Anyway, most ended their routes many years ago, as from what I know, the landing fees were outrages (not to mention typical Pakistani politics). The offices of the listed carriers (not sure about LX) are still present in Karachi, though they aren't open any longer....

Also, many middle east carriers such as EK, GF started to serve those cities, so it was just easier to codeshare (however, for some reason KU has ended KHI service) or move their fleet somewhere else.

now that you've mentioned it, when I go to Karachi next month, I'll make sure to take note of the offices present.

from what I can recall, BA never flew to KHI, but they still fly to ISB either 3x/weekly or 4x/weekly with a 777-200ER. In fact, they have been serving ISB/Rawalpidi for decades. I've been fortunate to fly on their VC-10's back in the 70's.. biggrin

Its kinda sad when you think about it.... I mean there are very few decent airlines into and out of Pakistan. I used to use KU all the time into KHI as they were very reasonable in fares and their service was far more superior than PK. Plus their connection in KWI wasn't too bad. now from what I understand, KU only does to LHE or LHE and ISB?
