Hi
I know for sure that the A380 will be coming into LHR at the beginning of December for airport compatibility tests etc not heard if MAN is included in it's itinery. I'd be in the beer garden too if it did visit !!

The topic is a bit misleading, I thought it had actually visited MAN. I don´t want to destroy your dreams, but to my knowledge, no visit at MAN is planned.

I don't think MAN is one of the 'official' A380 first or second phase airports (which were expanding facilities specifically for the A380), and so as yet is off the A380 radar.

I think the A340-600 visited Manchester as part of its trials - seem to remember it flew a non-stop long haul route full of volunteers who were testing the cabin, galley, air conditioning etc.
As a point, I've heard rumours that the taxiway running past the aviation viewing park would need to be widened for A380 ops at Manchester. This could possibly threaten the viewing park which would have to move.
So, upshot, maybe we don't want it at Manchester just yet! Fly past would be nice though.
Also, A380 is bound to come to Airbus UK at Brougton / fly past for the folks that make those massive wings.

Changing the subject slightly, I heard the viewing park at MAN is to be closed, not sure exactly when, anyone else heard that ? (can't remember where I read it)

well no actually, you would see it when it busts an engine flying back from LAX and has to land in MAN...if it's being flown by the world's favourite airline...

MAN would be the logical diversion for A380s for LHR, but if it isn't ready then they would have to divert to somewhere like FRA. Aircraft can't make Cat 3B landings from day one, so in the early days diversions are quite likely.

MAN is probably a very low priority right now. any A380 flights will either be to certain key airports for tests or those which have a marketing purpose in the respect that a potential key buyer is located there - the likes of JNB for example on both counts. MAN fits on neither count i'm afraid.
Once delveries start then an A380 at MAn is more likely.
