Air NZ Premium Economy Goes Cross Tasman

Air New Zealand have confirmed that the success of the Premium Economy product is behind the decision to take it onto Cross Tasman flights.

Presumably this will be restricted to the refitted 744s and new 777s doing a Tasman splash and dash from AKL.

Opps - sorry - just noted that the A320s are to be included on the BNE run as will.

Does this mean another change of seat for the A320s (ie 8 business class, X Premium, and as many economy ?)

I think that they have also decided to sell the A320 business cabin as Premium Economy on the BNE-AKL/WLG/CHC routes due to lack of actual business class pax on those routes .

I don't particularly understand why anyone would sell premium economy on trans-Tasman routes ... who would pay the premium over standard economy? Would any business flyers pay this fare over flexi econ? Or is it just a cabin they upgrade their FFs to?

Part of it may be to try to get people to pay Premier Economy transpacific eg BNE-AKL-SFO.

Well they're not going to change the seating on the (Air)buses, so they'll just downgrade the service and ditch business class.

BTW, trans-Tasman business class is the same as long-haul Pacific-plus.

If you are meaning premium economy the two are quite different.
