DL 764ER To LGW In April '06!

Looks like April (fools day) although not a joke Delta will start flying the 764ER's along with the 772's & 763ER's daily to London!!! No configuration numbers yet (J & Y) but should be neat to see all of DL's long haul fleet in LGW!

It will be in the current domestic configuration (i.e., with domestic First Class seats, not the BusinessElite-configured cabin yet) as they won't have enough time to reconfigure the 764ERs by then. The whole flight will be sold as Economy, with DL FF Elite members and those paying higher Economy (e.g., Y, B) fares getting to sit in the domestic First cabin. Similar to what AA did this summer with the 757s to Ireland (and next summer JFK-NCL).

I can see DL flying some domestic configured 764s to europe initially, but I really doubt LGW would be the market. London is known for it's premium bookings, and i would be suprised to see DL place an all economy flight on one of it's 3 ATL-LGW runs. Do you have a source?

The DL B764 segments are public and released in the spring/summer flight schedule on Delta.Com.

Segments listed:

Flight 10: ATL-LGW (3rd daily)
Flight 9: LGW-ATL (3rd daily)

Flight 156: ATL-SNN
Flight 157: SNN-ATL

Flight 76: ATL-FCO (2nd daily)
Flight 77: FCO-ATL (2nd daily)

Flight 154: JFK-MAN
Flight 155: MAN-JFK

The ATL-LGW flight on a 764ER is bookable already and shows only Economy buckets available. Seatmaps also show only Economy seats:

I find this pretty odd too. Why would Delta sell only Economy class fare and then upgrade a bunch of passengers to premier cabin when they can make more money selling J seats? This is just a silly planning. Something is going on...If they have plans to operate the B767-400ER to Europe with Business Elite cabin from day one then they would have started booking J class (Biz E) fares a long time ago. Just imagine the potential revenue loss. Delta might be seriously planning to operate the B767-400ER in the cattle domestic configuration to European destinations where high density leisure capacity is needed in the summer. If this becomes a reality then it would interesting to see what kind of service one can expect in that "International Economy First" class cabin. It wouldn't hurt to have 18-24 Business Elite seats in these airplanes...(It would suck for the non-revs tho...heh) Besides, the most of these routes that Delta is assigning the aircraft has another flight with Business Elite aircraft (LGW has B777/B763ER, FCO has B763ER) and Ireland is probably just a major summer tourist destination where not that many Business Elite travelers can be expected. MAN remains a mystery to me why delta has chosen to operate the B767-400ER.

From what I am getting the F cabin won't be a F product, except the seats and PTVs...other than that, it will be normal Y service?

It would seem to me that DL wants to keep all the 764's in the same configuration for use throughout the system. My guess is so they can switch them around between the Florida, Hawaii and European flights without having the issues of different configuration cabins. I would just assume they do not want to invest in the cabin conversion and delegate certain aircraft for "only" transatlantic flights. Although a "new" BiZElite cabin is in the works and could be introduced on the airplane later but we'll see. Also it's interesting to note that the DL 764's actually have the most seats of any DL airplane and will carry more passengers than their own 772's!

Thanks - didn't know they were already bookable.

TokyoNarita - I agree. Why wouldn't DL put all coach planes on routes where they have less demand for premium seats. I know AA flew their 757s across the pond as an all coach product, but those flights were to primarily leisure destinations - not London. I know it is their 3rd flight of the day, but it still seems a bit odd to me.

This is correct. A standard YC service will be offered from row 1 through 49.

The aircraft will fly in the current configuration during the spring and summer 2006. Coming fall 2006, all of the internationally assigned aircraft will be pulled for interior modifications, installation of BusinessElite seating, galleys etc. and will be ready for flying spring 2007.

They are using a mix of:

777-200 IAH, EWR
767-200 EWR
757-200 CLE, EWR
