I have not heard of that yet, but does anyone have any other info on the Continental DC-10-30 that almost had a disaster during take-off roll on April 25 in Newark, I think it was bound for Brussels?

I wonder if the problem was engine surge, I remember in an Airways magazine SEP/OCT 97, an article on the MD-11 where they had a picture of a SwissAir MD-11 taking off showing flames coming out of one of the P&W 4000 engines on the wing. There have been engine surge problems with the P&W 4000 series engine that power the MD-11.

Sounds like a contained engine failure. Not the kind of thing you'd look forward to, but not exactly a borderline disaster.
