I live in Orlando and I see a Virgin Atlantic fly by and it justs makes me mad that MCO only has one airline with 747s. Why doesnt NWA or KLM fly some of there 747s over here? And Brittish Airways replaced all there 747s with 777s and that justs make me mad. Also why did Air Canada remove there 747s?

Maybe there isn't demand for 747s? Would you rather MCO have 1 daily from every airline with a 747 or several daily with short range aircraft. I agree, 747s are awesome but it could be worse, you could live in TPA where there is NO 747 scheduled service. Be grateful we get 3-4 747s a day as it is.

I'm also a bit surprised BA doesn't have a 747 on LGW-MCO route. I'm not surprised about NWA not having one - MCO is not their hub.
As long as MCO is A380 ready (as liste on MCO website) I'm happy  Wink

AC no longer uses 747's. They retired their 747-400's (ex-Canadian) several years ago.

There was a 747 in TPA the other day, it was parked right next to the old US airways hangar.. i dont know what type of 747 it was.. It looked like a privately owned one.. and was very very short..

I don't know why you would think that Northwest would fly their B747-400s to MCO when they are busy serving Asian destinations.

About the Delta B747-300, it is just pure humor!

The very, very short 747 at TPA was probably a private 747-SP from the Middle East somewhere.

Just the KE one a couple days a week, right? And various cargo ops as well. Are there any other pax ones?

Oh and I530j, BA doesn't fly their 744s into MCO because the route is from LGW, and a few years back BA simplified their long-haul network by basing only 772s from Gatwick. They could without a doubt fill a 747 again, but it's all in the name of saving money these days.

BA uses the 777's on LGW-MCO now as LGW is just a 777 base, no 744's or 763's are based at LGW, so MCO will only see 777's!

Why doesnt NWA or KLM fly some of there 747s over here?

KLM wouldn't send their 744's to MCO as they don't operate any MCO flights, only MP operate AMS-MCO flights with their 763's! Even if KLM was to start MCO, I doubt it would be with a 744!
NWA wouldn't send their 742's or 744's to MCO either, there is no point in sending a 747 down from DTW, IND or MSP, may as well choose to fly DC-9's, A320's and 757's and have more frequencies!

The only way we would see a KLM or NWA 747 in MCO is if it was a cargo flight or diversion!  Smile

Back in the early 90's MCO had NW 747 service. Nowadays SFB gets the UK charter airlines' 747s which otherwise would be going to MCO.

2001 was the last year Saudi Arabian flew to MCO. Service started in the late 90s with 747-300s and ended with 744s. It was during the summer only, perhaps ended because of 9/11.

KLM used to fly 747s to MCO during the early 90s. It has to be the only airport among the biggest ones that don't get any A340s. Virgin was the only airiline that brought the type for a short time.

I live in Orlando as well. I of course enjoy VS 744 in town, I've flown them the LGW too. It'd be GREAT to have more 747's route through MCO. With the high tourist demands, which will only grow with time, that might be a viable option for some carriers, no US carriers though.
