US Envoy Service After Merger?

Is there anyone on A.net with inside knowledge on this? Now that US is calling itself a LCC, what implications does that have for Envoy class on transatlantic flights as far as catering, inflight service, cabins, etc?

I can't remember which thread I read this in, but I remember reading that although US Airways will become an LCC in North America, they will continue to retain "full service" when flying transatlantic routes. Don't quote me on that. It would be a shame to see them get rid of their Envoy service. I remember I flew it in the Spring of 2001, PIT-LGW, and LGW-CLT (both on the 333), and felt like it was great; wonderful seats, superb service, etc. I missed the opening of the Gatwick US Airways Club by a month I think. Grrr...

Trust me, with the yields they get in Envoy, they can afford the extra costs.

The only change I've heard about is that they were originally strongly considering changing the name to the dreadfully generic Business Class, but I understand they've rethought that position now that they have a slightly better understanding of the market.

Continuing CEO Parker's tradition. America West was a full service, low cost carrier, in that they had first class.

It might be a bit more like good business class than real first, but who knows these days?

AirTran is another LCC with business class.

IMO . . . US Airways should continue their Trans-Atlantic Envoy Class . . . not that it's anything special, just a "cute" name for their trans-atlantic premium class.

They'll stay with F/Y classes in the continental US - as they should.

They are billing themselves as the nation's full service low cost carrier.

Envoy is a key part.

And, although I'd flown Envoy, I preferred CO and B/F . . . I never had the opportunity to fly on a US A330 in Envoy however - perhaps my opinion would be different. The US B762s were/are simply worn out . . . perhaps we'll see an upgrade of those aircraft within the next 18 months - the airframes aren't that old, but the interiors have been beaten too far.

US has 10 A330s on order that are earmarked to replace the 767 fleet. Of course, who knows when or if they'll ever be delivered.

It most certainly would. While the 762s had their interiors redone in 1997, they can't begin to hold a candle to the 333s.

For the thousandth time, no, they're not that old. They were delivered between 1987 and 1993, half to Piedmont and half to USAir. While not as new as Continental's, they're a good deal younger than some of those operated by the other U.S. carriers.

I most certainly missed that . . . I hopped on a 762 from PHL-LAX . . . why it was on a domestic run I don't know . . . in 1C (sitting next to a deadheading US Captain) . . . and I vividly recall both of us commenting on the poor condition of the cabin . . . that was in 1997 . . .

But, back to topic . . . US will retain Envoy on trans-atlantic I'm sure . . . they'll still need to compete on some level (even as an LCC) with their rival carriers . . .

USAirways should keep the envoy class. i plan on trying their product in the future even though they are not big in the ord market(i think).

but all airlines need SOMETHING to set them apart from each other no matter if its a legacy or lcc
