I think this thread can go in civil aviation but feel free to move it if its wrong.
Well today was my long day we have one of these a week it can be really boring but today was fun.
it started of by taking a MAAS (meet and assist) pax to the ZRH gate, bless it was the ladies first time of flying and she was quite nervous. managed to get her to the gate and take her down to the plane, she asked if she needed to give me something but I said no dont worry about it its all part of the service.
Next I had to meet the ABZ, INV then the ANU/GND fairly routine a couple of specials (ie wheelchair pax etc) but that was it, breakfast time.
Normally you only get to board one long haul but today I was lucky and managed to get 2, which were the BGI and the TPA. the BGI went smoothly boarded on time and pushed back right on schedule. TPA was a bit more complicated as we had a couple offloaded due to visa problems, the pax were a bit upset that nobody had spotted it before the gate, no worries though as we still managed to push back on time ish.
After lunch I had to go and board the LPA which was totally full, the inbound was a little late so this affected the departure time of the outbound plus we managed to collect some pax return tkts instead of their outbound ones. never mind I went trotting down to the plane and managed to get the right ones.
then after it had pushed back I was lined up to meet the FNC and turn it around as the RAK which was again full but we managed to get everyone thru the lounge on time although pushback was delayed by a couple of minutes.
after tea myself and a colleague were sent over the new Pier 6 bridge to meet some inbounds again they were all routine, but its always nice to go over the bridge and see whats in.
then it was home time. I hope I havent bored you let me know what you think, if there are any questions you have feel free to ask.
thanks LGWspeedbird

Oooo just remembered we had customs checking our LPA flight as they needed to check someone. Couldn't get much info out of them as to what was wrong with the pax but there were a few other worried looking pax at the gate when they saw customs.
The aircraft reg that I can remember were G-VIIB G-VIIP G-TTID for LPA and G-TTIB for RAK.
G-TTID (or tiddles as its sometimes refered to as) is very nice inside very bright and airy compared to some of the older aircraft in GB's fleet
The visa problem on the TPA flight was due to the pax being a British subject not citizen. There are so many new rules to remember its mad.

I enjoyed your "day in the life..." report very much. I think it's great that other aviation professionals besides the pilots are posting such glimpses into what it's like to do their job for all us non-aviation folks

thanks N62NA, That was an airside shift so I shall write another one when Im on checkin or departure hosting which can be quite fun, especially when you are supervising the KIN checkin.
ps departure hosting is when you are on the floor directing pax to the right zone and helping your colleagues on the desks.

Quoting Abrelosojos (Reply 3): Haha ... what the hell is a British subject? Are we back to colonial days?
Until 1 January 1983, all Commonwealth citizens were also British subjects. Since then the rules have changed, so Commonwealth citizens are no longer automatically British subjects but can apply to be in certain circumstances. British subjects differ from British citizens in that only citizens have the right to live and work in the UK. So no, we're not back to our colnial days but it is indeed a throwback to them.
And I thought all you guys did was read the mail at the Gates
Seriously, its always good to get an idea of what others do in the terminal, I'm not have the first clue about any of it no doubt. I'll give u a wave if I see you at any point soon!! (and I can work out who u are!)

Nice to see a post from a working CSA Helen. Especially a LGW based one.
My wife was a BACX CSA here on the Isle of Man until BA made her redundant, but she still does the job for Manx Regional. She is basically a load controller/despatcher but she does her time on bags, check in and so on.
I work for BACX here and as I come from Horley and my wife is from Maidstone, we go across fairly often.
Keep up the good work and maybe we'll see you sometime in passing.
Oh, and the new peir extension is ok, but so far from anywhere!!!!!!!!!!! Room 101 sounds like a good descrition

Oh boy i used to work with the handling company of BA in GND. We are sometimes talking 10 WCHR passengers 3 being "lift offs" Guys at LGW they don't have the man power for all these wheelchair pax. LOL
I absolutely hated to work the ramp cordinator position on BA and VS days, flying hospital. What is crazy is that at times the passeger can walk rather well. I saw a passenger all infirm in the wheelchair, and when she saw her bag on the carousel, she got up quite ably walked over and took her bag off, then return to the comfortable wheelchair. HAHA
