CO Domestic Schedule Summer 06 Question

Saturday, I booked a ticket on Continental (of course- who else would I fly?) to fly DFW-IAH-MSP and back. I travel July 19, and return on the same route July 25. I am booked on a 738 DFW-IAH, a 733 IAH-MSP, a 735 MSP-IAH, and another 735 IAH-DFW.

My question is how likely is it that these will be the actual aircraft assignments? Recently, I booked a friend on Conti to Las Vegas, and they switched his IAH-LAS legs from 752s to a 739 and a 753. Great for him- nicer planes.
So surely CO doesn't know what they want to put on that route yet, right? Do they typically operate these types to MSP in the summer? Or is there a chance they'll swap to NGs?

We got bulkhead seats for two of those flights... if they change types, will they put us back in the bulkheads, or just stick us somewhere in back?

If they change--they usually send out an automatic email, and to my knowledge the MSP routes would have maybe 1 or 2 -800s on the schedule--so its possible.

Really? I never really had a problem with them in that regard. Do you mean different types of 737s? Cause that is the point of fleet commonality. The 73G and 733 have the same seat config anyway. The only time the plane changed on my flight was from a BF equipped 757 to a non BF equipped 757. They are pretty consistent with their scheds--I've personally had problems with America West--you wouldn't believe how hard it was to finally get on an HP 757. Different experiences for different folks I guess.

Im most cases CO's sched reverts to a "dummy" or "default" schedule usually 2 months out, usually has old flight number and times, and sometimes old aircraft. Come cities may be different, and probably a hub like IAH has a more stable schedule. In the past month or so ive seen BDL-IAH go from a morning flight... to an afternoon flight... to going away... then back to a morning flight, and now for january it shows it gone, but then you notice the default/ dummy schedule later shows it back as an afternoon flight!

EWR is constrained at times, so some smaller feed markets such as those in the north east may seee more changes as a result.

CLE has really funky scheduling, though it may be smart on CO's part. I know for PVD-CLE...soem days there are 4...some days 3 and some days 2.... if advance bookings go up sometimes days with 3 go up to 4 or days with 2 go up to 3 etc..(summer time is almost all 4x daily)

Yeah i'd say you have a pretty good chance of it changing. i booked recently

ORD-EWR-SJO-IAH-ORD dec 26 / jan 7 and when i booked it it was 735/738/738/738, now it is 735/738/757/735, and the times are all off a bit. Also i booked for my parents dec 25/jan 7 ORD-IAH-SJO-IAH-ORD ERJ/738/738/738 and the ERJ flight got cancelled to they got put on an earlier (1 hour) flight, and theirs are now 733/757/757/735

Exactly. One reason why we simplified our fleet is to have flexibility with the 737 group, and change aircraft accordingly, to meet rising/falling demand at a given time of year. And schedules ARE subject to change without notice, remember.

A good example of that is the 757's. A "default" is in, at least up to 2 months out. CO 481 CLE-LAS is, now, almost always a 753, but more than few months out, it will show "757" in availibilty, so they can have some flexibility if they need to change it.

I'll try to simplify it for you a bit.  Smile

CO runs a "full" weekday schedule on Mon/Thur/Fri, with reduced flying on Tue/Wed to a lot of markets, because those are usually the weak flying days out of the hubs (CO does this to a degree out of IAH sometimes as well). On Saturdays, CO goes from the 8-bank schedule during it's full week schedule to very large banks at 0930, 1300 and between 1700 and 1815. Again, Saturday is a not-too-profitable day. Sunday, there are fewer AM flights, but full banks after 12pm.

Hope that helps. It's designed to minimize unprofitable flying on those days that are natuarlly tought to make money.

It's one reason why CO, I believe, does better than most of the majors each quarter-the flexibility of it's fleet in meedting increased or decreased demand.

Yes, they type of 737 listed right now is simply a placeholder for any 737 they fly, since you don't have any transcons in there.

And they probably wouldn't put 757s on your routes considering it will be summer and they will be using those for international flying even more next summer.

many times we have upgraded our flights to 738s MSP-IAH.............typically the 2nd RON from IAH is a 738 and the 800am departure out of MSP is the 738.......every now and then (more towards Feb/Mar) will we see 2 738 overnights.
