This news just in. The Taiwan Times(?) reports that China Airlines is close to announcing a $4 billion order with Boeing for 747s and 777s. This would be some welcome news for Boeing after a pretty weak start to '99. But I'll believe it only when the check clears.

Taiwan is a growing market for Boeing. China Airlines already has a fleet of Boeing 737-800 and 747-400 aircraft and more on order. I am sure they will start retiring most of there Airbus A300 aircraft soon. Taiwan's other airline EVA Air has an all Boeing fleet.
