Last night I was looking through the ramp and kept focused upon TAP
Portugal new image. My honest opinion: HORRIBLE! Looks like a LOW-COST
carrier. Almost unidentifiable. Is this the image of Portugal????

Hi!

Well it the depends on the taste! What I really don't understand from you is when you say "almost unidentifiable".... maybe you could be more specific!!! The colours of portugal are red and green, in the tail it's says Portugal and there is a big P.... so I don't know what do you need more.... you can see clearly the 3 big words TAP!!! Well if this is not enough?!?!? Only if you don't connect TAP with Portugal!
I personally think it's a very modern concept and actually works great in big airports when you have many colours around TAP livery really pops-up!

I would say Iberia looks more like a "LOW-COST" because you have to pay for the service on board........

I respect our opinion but I encourage you to go to the photo engine search, filter by TAP and read the comments of the photogrphers.

I personally don't like it at all. It is a kind of modern shot well over the target. Sure, the old livery was about due for renovation but it represented Portugals national colors. The new one? It could be the ad for a cleaning product or whatever. This light green is far to bright. Imagine how those birds will look, ones the white will get a little dirty... yuck

Their frequent flyer program was called "Navigator". Now they call it "Victoria"  boggled  ...........all that comes to my mind by reading this name is an American shop for Lady's underwear, called "Victoria's Secret".

But as mentioned before, it's all a question of taste and this is my very personal opinion.

Cheers

I love the TAP livery. Very innovative, modern and fresh. it just looks like a menthol breeze in an ocean of liveries you see, for example, in EWR.
I love the green of that livery- its like lime yelowish green, just love it.

I like that too, although their seat counts are not correct.
But the seat maps are. And those maps are made in a way that they look they are made for seat booking...But TAP doesn't offer this feature when booking... at least by now.  Wink

Well Charvett I respect your opinion, althouth I have to admite that I dont agree with you 100%. When I first saw the Taps new livery I was personally disapointed with it. I believed that Tap could have come up with something better. As time goes by im starting to apreciate the new scheme more and more. Its quite different from what is around.

Soon you will be seeing more of the following:

Almost unidentifiable. Is this the image of Portugal????

Tap is trying to show a fresher, modern, dinamic, simplified vision with its new color scheme. This is indeed the image Portugal is trying to potray to the world.

Quoting Garri767 (Reply 1):
yes and its been TAP's image for quite some time now............

I believe that this image was first presented to the public back in February/March of this year. It first appeared on one of its A310-300.

Quoting TAP1972 (Reply 3):

This new livery will indeed save Tap alot on maintenace. Its better for an airline to cut some expenditures where it wont hurt the flying public, rather than charging the flying public for food and drinks. Dont you agree?

Just got back from a trip on them - I agree with your statement.

Now, what about the other "image"? On-board the seats are comfy and the legroom ample. The service is also good onboard. However, they have this other company called GroundForce which handles most of their ground operations (ticketing, info, catering, etc.). In all my travels, I have never met more rude people in my life! TP should think twice before renewing this company's contract. I missed a flight because of a delay and they talk to me while smoking and laugh at my situation and tell me it's not their problem. You will not get that type of treatment from TP employees! I hope they still handle their own maintenance!

Well, I guess that "fresh" describes it well. But I still don't like it, because it also seems too "cheap", appropriated to a low cost carrier. I would prefer a more "distinct" image...

Nevertheless, I don't agree that a carrier gives any kind of image of the country. There are extremely sophisticated and wonderful liveries from third world countries... And the other way around, too.

Carriers are just companies. Their images are usually created in multinational design companies. And it's all about business...

I don't think that is likely, as GroundForce is 90% owned by TAP...

The new image is ok. It is certainly distinctive.

That is not correct, TAP owns 43.9%, Globalia 50.1% and Portugalia 6%

Thanks for the correction. I knew they had merged companies with PGA, giving them part of it, but I forgot they had sold part of the remainder.

I like TAP's new livery. In fact, I have a photo I took at LHR last spring of CS-TEX, the A310 with the new livery, as it was landing at LHR.

The new TAP livery reminds me of an old favourite childhood toy of mine:
Play-Plax.

Play-Plax was a construction toy built by the British toy company, Trendon, back in 1965. It was a set of translucent coloured plastic squares with a notch cut in each side so that these squares could be put together (and interlock) to form creative, colourful abstract sculptures. These translucent plastic squares came in these colours: blue, green, red, yellow, white, and others. They came in two different kinds of sets. One set, the basic set, contained 48 squares in a divided box. The more deluxe set contained translucent plastic coloured cylindrical rings along with the squares.

The vintage toy website, Time Warp Toys, has a photo of Play-Plax:
http://www.timewarptoys.com/playplax.jpg

That's what TAP's new colours remind me of.

Hi!

Well, we are talking about our new livery and of course because it's my country's airline I should at least say some words. I was born with the "trauma" of TAP livery from the 60's/70's, TAP livery at that time reflected exactely the regime we had, very backwards, nothing new, no colourfull, grey etc. etc. TAP livery at that time also reflected the state of mind and spirit of Portugal and the portuguese, no expectations, no future!!! If you notice too, even the responsibles for the airline were so arrogant that they wrote the name of the airline in portuguese...... so most of the people could hardly understand unless you knew portuguese - " TRANSPORTES AÉREOS PORTUGUESES" - now it's easier because the world is so global and lot's of people can understand at least a bit, but back then it was absolutelt astonishing!!! After the revolution TAP responsibles tried at least to give further information about TAP, so they kept the same livery but below the big TAP on the tail of the airplanes they wrote in tinny little letters - " THE AIRLINE OF PORTUGAL" - well, at least there was some information saying that TAP was portuguese, but you had to have powerfull binnoculars to see that on the tail. So when I first saw the next livery TAP got I almost got a strocke!!!! Why? Because suddenly TAP guys found out that actually Portugal used the colour green in the flag!!!!!! Si why not use it too on the new livery???? And then "the sun shinned" in our minds, TAP passed from a very boring and grey livery to a nice cool livery with the green in it! But there was still a problem, maybe people would still not connect TAP with Portugal..... so why not add black tittles saying - "AIR PORTUGAL" - and that was the major reason why "Air Portugal" was added, I personally don't think that was necessary! Now what we have is truly a livery that reflects the truly portuguese spirit, the colours are the same of our flag, red and green , but if you look they are not exactely the same, the green is lighter, and the red is darker and when some parts the get even a bit darker too, but for me it shows Portugal has a vacation place. In the enthusiast group that I normally gather with to talk about aviation here in Portugal we call it "the salad", green letuce and tomatoes, and when do we get that fresh salad? Well in the summer!!! So I think TAP reflects always summer time when I see it landing!
Regards
