According to the news on the german tv-channel RTL a fire had destroyed the domestic terminal in Ankara/Turkey last night. No one was hurt, domestic passengers have to use the terminal for international flights now.

I have read it in Turkish Newspapers too, really sad, thank god nobody is hurt. They will be using the Intl terminal for domestic pax now. It also helps that the airport is in the process of getting IST style modern teminal. Any of our Turkish a.netters has the date of completion for that new terminal?

Hmm.. I am wondering why it took the entire portion of the terminal in an airport where fire and rescue should respond to any kind of fire in seconds.
The airport's real estate was already too small. The new terminal is being built in the location of cardboard building called "charter terminal". So, all the charters, domestic and international pax was squeezed into the old building.
It will be even tighter now..

True, but the good times are ahead check out the images of the new terminal opening september 2006 looking great, and fit for our capital city.

Maybe the construction company in charge to build the new terminal found a cheap way to dispose of the old terminal by putting fire to it..  Wink
Glad nobody was hurt- but the Ankara fire-brigade must have been pretty slow to react ,if the whole terminal went up in flames...!
